Maybe. If they feel wronged enough by whoever Cumberbatch is and connect it to Starfleet it could be a setup for the third movie assuming the plot of this one is reasonably tied up.

I wonder if J.J. will show ridged Klingons as well as smooth-headed ones to preserve at least some continuity. If not it's always possible that in the altered timeline after 2233 the Empire found a cure for the effects of the 22nd century viral mutation seen on Enterprise so there might not be any smooth-headed Klingons left by this point in the new history.

I don't mind if the Klingons have ridges or not. I am tired of Klingons with 80's heavy metal hair though.

Agreed. As a sci-fi action adventure film, it looks kick-ass. But it doesn't feel at all like Star Trek.

I'm now convinced that Cumberbatch is Gary Mitchell. One line in particular sold me.

By the helmet. It was made and used for Klingons in the first movie.

Is it too late to hope for Admiral Archer's beagle to finally materialize and reappear? ;)

    Well I agree there's a good chance that's what they are but I don't think it's conclusive.

Which one? There's some pretty solid Wrath of Khan callbacks too, so I'd say it's still leaning that way.

I found it very hard to tell if it was Klingons Benedict's character was fighting. The trailer just went so quickly.

I would have to disagree, it looks pretty conclusive to me.

Did Gary Mitchell at any point say "Shall we begin?" during the TOS episode?

My guess is that they were Klingons. The brief glimpse of their head armor seemed to match or at least resemble what the Rura Penthe guards were wearing in the deleted scenes from the last film.

No, but I think Bane did in TDKR.

That settles it. Cumberbatch is playing Bane!

I'm actually convinced that Cumberbatch is neither Khan or Mitchell, but possibly Garth. Then again, he could be a new character (the theory I've had the longest).

I'm inclined to think Alice Eve is playing a new character.
