It's more then just the shirt. Many of the clothes he's wearing have an 18th Century look to them.

That. Is. Awesome! I wish he wore that one! It looks brilliant on him!
I'd like him to maybe wear a long dark coat. Maybe a military one.
I think that LOOK SUITS Smith. I'm just glad he got to war a similar coat in series 6.

Someone may have felt that the military-type coat was a bit too similar to Captain Jack's.

Yeah, that one's a bit too similar and I immediately thought of Jack when I saw it, but maybe one of a different colour.

Weren't there rumours that Tennant would wear a kilt? Though I think they spawned from a joke he made shortly after his casting was announced.

I'd hate a kilt. That would be awful.

A kilt would work better with a non-Scottish actor. It'd just be something he selects. But if he has a Scottish accent and a kilt, it's all a bit stereotyped - is he meant to be a Scottish time-lord all of a sudden?

Yeah, I wouldn't want Capaldi to be remembered as the Scottish doctor. It's a big enough jump to have the first non English accent for a doctor, but a kilt too?

A kilt would have worked better with Smith for one or two episodes as a random phase like the Fez or his array of other hats.

^First non-English accent? Sylvester McCoy might have something to say about that.

Sylvester McCoy was Scottish and spoke with a Scottish accent when he played the Doctor.

EDIT: Damn, got ninja'd on the matter.

Not any more. They all declared independence and went off on their own.

Tennant's Accent is English? Sure sounds quite a bit like Scottish to my "less than trained ear"? Not as thick like Amy or McCoy, but, to me it definitely sounds quite similar to Scottish.

Tennant's natural accent is Scottish, Tennant's doctor accent is pure mockney!

??? He was talking about Capaldi, as far as I understood. Though we don't actually know yet what accent he'll used.

Tennant's own accent is Scottish but he adopted a what's sometimes called an 'Estuary English' or 'Mockney' (mock cockney) accent for DW.

Anyway, even if one were to regard Tennant's as a Non-English accent, McCoy was still first.

I thought Tennant's Doctor had an Estuary accent. Though I've heard that the lines between Cockney and Estuary are blurred.

Right, but, had I been correct, it meant he was forgetting not only McCoy (Which 2 of you already pointed out), but, also Tennant. Hard to believe he could forget Tennant, since he was such a short time ago.

So, am I hearing little bits of Tennant's natural accent bleeding through here and there, or mistaking some Mockney sounds as Scottish?

^I think in fairness, he wasn't forgetting Tennant, but wasn't counting him as a Scottish-accented Doctor, because Tennant didn't play him with a Scottish accent. If Capaldi uses his own Scottish accent (and we don't yet know that he will), he will be the second actor to do so and the first to do so since McCoy.

I'm Irish, so I'd have to yield to our English and Scottish posters on this one, but to me, for the most part, Tennant's DW accent sounded convincingly English and not at all Scottish. But English and Scottish posters may say otherwise.
