I know, I know, the proper title for the film is simply 'Star Trek'. And that's as it should be. It's appropriate, as a reboot. It's good marketing to brand it simply that way.

But in fandom we don't necessarily have to roll like that. I get tired of refering it as variously 'Abrams Trek', or 'NuTrek', or 'Trek 2009', or whatever. Surely if we all put our heads together we can all come up with a good, proper subtitle for the 2009 movie? :)

Boring as it sounds, I like the one suggested on the movie poster. "The Future Begins". It's a nice simple subtitle that also manages to explain what the movie is about.

The Future Begins = TFB. ST:TFB or STTFB. Too clunky. And every time someone doesn't use it do we disrupt the thread to tell them, or point this thread out to them? Complicated.

I like Star Trek or ST. This differentiates it from The Original Series because we call that TOS.

It always causes some extra clarification in my house.

"Do you want to watch Star Trek?"

    uhhh...

In writing I've always said ST:XI. So lately I've been referring it to as "eleven".

"Star Trek 11" is probably easiest.

    Nah.
I prefer Star Trek, Star Trek 2009, ST09, STXI, the first Abrams movie etc

"Nu Star Abrams Trek XI '09" would have a really memorable and snappy title to go with, but they dumbed it down!

The Future Begins is too generic and also kind of weirdass as we are watching a reboot of Trek's past.

I've recently been calling it Star Trek all around this site. No-one's had any trouble knowing what I'm talking about yet.

IRL, on the other hand, it's "Star Trek. The latest one."

I just call it ST09 around here. For some reason I don't like STXI.

    As opposed to "Into Darkness"?

I like "The Future Begins" very much.

"The Future Begins" - nerdy, cliched and generic all rolled into one.

Just "Star Trek" is perfectly fine, I don't see what's so confusing about that.

How about be call it "crap"? :)

Kidding aside, I think ST2009 works for me. Or most of the time ST would work because I don't think people will mix it up with TOS.
