I have to laugh at all the bitching about Black Widow's costume. I mean, (a) it looks pretty faithful to me. (b) Probably more pertinently, it's not exactly an iconic costume, like Spider-man's or Superman's, in the first place, is it?

True, I mean not only was more than one character known by the name but didn't the costume change every other appearance? I mean Ms. Johanssen should have had a grey unitard with a big black spider on it as far as I'm concerned!

My only complaint about the Black Widow's costume is that I wish the bracelets did something. So far they only seem to be decorative. Maybe Stark can jazz them up to give Tasha back her Widow's Bite by the end of the movie.

    Never said that.
    Never said that.
    Never said that.
Never said "remotely". It arguably does look remotely like it.
I said that is possible. We've seen it before. Superman Returns is a prime example. I don't know who's making this movie. I don't much follow this stuff. I've pretty much only seen the pictures here.
So now I've seen it. And yeah, the costume sucked, though it was less noticeable than in the production stills, since he barely ever stood still. On the whole, the film was pretty good, and mostly got Cap right. And there were a dozen easter eggs for comic fans. But there were a few significant missteps.
    Fine by me.

Hardly bitching. I stated I was amused that a halloween costume advertised for sale is more faithful. That seemed to get everyone's panties right twisted. "Amusement" and "bitching" are two different states of mind.

No, it didn't change every other appearance. There were a few changes, and it always reverted back to her, yes, iconic look. Even relatively obscure characters have iconic looks.

My issue isn't that it's not completely faithful, but that they've stuck her in a SHIELD uniform and called it a day. There's so much more to this character.

On the whole, though, honestly, I don't care. Like I said, Cap's costume so far looks a lot worse. But at the end of the day I don't care about this. I'll see this film when it comes out on disk, just like I saw Captain America last night. I don't have an investment here. That doesn't mean I don't get to make observations, or that my observations as someone who read comics throughout the so-called Bronze age (and dutifuly collected back issues of the Golden and Silver ages too), aren't valid, regardless of whether they're popular.

Not far off the mark, to tell you the truth. I never watched Buffy or those other shows, when various girlfriends watched them and I caught 5 minutes here or there they looked fairly insipid (if deliberately so) to me. I really don't know what else he did.
Was he the guy behind Highlander? I loved Highlander.

I think she's probably had more uniform changes than any other Marvel character running. I think the original is best: a fur wrap, veil and a little webbing across the cleavage.

You are forgetting Iron Man and more than 30 different armors. And the Wasp who was changing outfits every couple of issues for a while in the late 70s/early 80s.

The Widow has had a few changes but she also has what is her iconic look, which is pretty close to what the movies have shown. Minus the guns and SHIELD patches, of course.

Eh, whatever. The ultimate point is that nitpicking the Widow uniform in this film and Iron Man 2 seems a bit silly because if she has an "iconic look" then they've met it. Despite that we should accept that in live action most comic book costumes look pretty silly. I'm a huuuuuge Dr. Strange fan and if the eventual film depicts him in blue ballet tights it would be weird (the tunic works though).

Having said that if Luke Cage is in a film without an afro, tiara, open-neck yellow blazer and chain for a belt I will howl at the moon with outrage!

For some reason, I doubt a guy who has written 24 issues of Astonishing X-Men, 1 issue of X-Men, Stan Lee Meets the Amazing Spider-Man, 6 issues of Runaways, 17 issues of the Buffy the Vampire comic, and 6 issues of the Serenity comic, not to mention serving as executive produce of the entire line of post-series Buffy, and the post series Angel comics really has any kind of issue with comic books.
No, but he did do Speed, Toy Story, and was a writer and story editor on Roseanne.

That was Tania in the bondage photo that was posted earlier. Not really familiar with her and forgot what had happened to 'Tasha at that time. How could one not possibly not be at least a little aware of Joss Whedon on this board? We talk about him all the time....and I'd hazard a guess he's been mentioned in this very thread a dozen times, possibly more.

Joss Wheaton is annoying. There's no writer more annoying than the "I'm too clever for this" writer

Wil Whedon is great on the Big Bang Theory and Eureka.

Without the fur and a long-stemmed cigarette-holder any Black Widow costume is an insult to the original character.

That's interesting, though I've never heard of him.

What do you think of Joss Whedon?
