#9 is announced: The countdown to the next STAR TREK movie continues here in "The Return of the Archons"! Kirk, Spock and the crew search for a lost Starfleet ship that may hold clues to the future of the entire Federation.

I would had liked the Doomsday Machine much more.

I miss some ship too ship action.

The ongoing in doing all kinds of reimagined episodes...one would think they would get around to doing the Doomsday Machine eventually.

Aren't they kinda doing them in as they originally happened in TOS to some degree? If so, then "The Doomsday Machine" is a second season story while "Return of the Archons" is still a first season one.

Although, the order is already scrambled, because they've just done "Operation: Annihilate!", the Season One closer.

This is all just IMHO, but I would imagine that The Doomsday Machine would be one of the episodes that would provide good elements for being incorporated into a big budget movie. If its on Bad Robot's shortlist of ideas, then it might be one of the episodes that the comic stays away from.

You omitted the first part of what I said:
I already took into account they weren't doing them in exact order.

i just read issue 6. this latest two-parter has been, by far, my favorite of so far. This is the kind of stuff i have been hoping for with this series. Taking a classic story, and really giving it a new and interesting spin. Bring on issue 7!

It's nice to see the main characters shaping up nicely as variations on the 'originals' but the stories still feel too rushed. They need to pad them out with new angles and make each one a 3 issue story, especially the original stories.

Aha - and Janice got another cameo, probably by accident, since nobody told the artist that Zahra was a yeoman in the original. Still, it's nice to see old bunhead again, and I prefer Zahra as a security guard than an admin assistant. :p

I do think part of the appeal of nuTrek is its new direction. That brings in new fans, but as an older fan I like to see how the world has changed. If the comic mixes it up between net new stories with a few classic reimagined TOS stories, I think that's a nice balance.

That said, I more interested in prime timeline Trek novels than nuTrek. Although have Trelane being confirmed to be part of the Q Continuum in a the nuTrek comic series would be cool. Also having ancestors or Sisko, Picard, etc. pop in the comic would be cool. Maybe even Guinan.

The point of the movie franchise is to tell new stories, yes. The point of tie-ins to the movie franchise, however, is to be secondary to the movies, to support and reinforce them without getting in their way or stealing their thunder, and to appeal to a much smaller niche audience than the movies have to. So they're two different things and can have different approaches.
