^^^That would be unintentionally hilarious because you'd have Root doing his very bad mock Scots accent surrounded by characters speaking with the genuine article.
We had a pretty productive day on location at the local observatory, shooting the Intrepid short, Transposition. Facebook Photo Gallery
And a little behind the scenes video. What!? No spacesuits? [yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7h8EbT2R7w&feature=youtu.be[/yt]
A little project history. And an update. Back in 2003, Star Trek fanfilms were few and far between. Hidden Frontier and Starship Exeter were pretty much the prime movers, and the resources available to those who wanted to make their own films were very limited, unless you had professional contacts and plenty of money to spend. We started Intrepid, largely inspired by the efforts of Exeter and Hidden Frontier, with very limited resources and, frankly, barely a clue what we were doing. Over the years we've grown in experience and have gained access to an array of tools that we could only dream about 12 years ago. But the real life commitments of the last few years have mostly prevented us from making the most of what we've gained. With that in mind, our current focus is to finish up the existing project we started some time ago (Dissonant Minds, which is mostly 'in the can') and proceed to work on two or three new short fanfilms; Transposition, The Story, and likely one other (as yet untitled). While Dissonant Minds will not entirely reflect new equipment and lessons learned, since much of it was shot some time ago, the shorts we are working on will hopefully show a rapid progression in skill and production quality, and we hope to release those shorts before too many months have passed. So what then? Well next year is the Fiftieth Anniversary of Star Trek, and I don't think any of us is likely to let that go without trying to produce something. At present, I am working on an episode length script that I hope to produce next year, but how soon that happens will depend on how well we proceed over the next few months, and how easily we can elevate our skills to the next level. We may not be the fastest, we may not be the most polished, and we're certainly not the best. But we are dedicated to bringing you fun, entertaining stories set in the Star Trek universe. So we hope you'll bear with us over the following months. Thank you.
Spent about an hour today back on location outside Mills Observatory, shooting a few easy pick up shots for Transposition. Really enjoyed watching the actors do their thing today. These should be the last bits of video we'll need to shoot for this one. I've completed a rough assembly, minus effects shots, so I'll likely spend the next couple of weeks hammering out the inevitable changes with the director and DoP.
I'm currently closing in on a locked cut of Transposition. I've had some useful feedback from a number of people, and while it won't be winning any awards, I'm hopeful people will see some real progression in our efforts on this one. Not sure on a release date yet, but I imagine it'll be done before Summer rolls around.
So I have a pretty much "near as damn it" cut of our next short in hand. While I can't rule out additional tweaks depending on what feedback it gets, it's essentially just sound work, a few visual effects shots, and scoring to do now. Hopefully we'll be able to release it before the end of May. Running time is about five and half minutes.
So looks like I'm done with the editing on Transposition. Now I'm waiting for a few effects shots and then I'll be sending it off for sound work. I hoping we can get this all done and dusted before June, but don't hold me to it.
I can't wait for the next episode of this, from what I can tell its the only active TNG / Post Nem era film active right now.
Semi-active anyway. This is one of two fairly unambitious short films to help us get back into the swing of things and improve our skills. We're planning to shoot the second late next month. Hopefully they'll prepare us for an episode length production next year.
There are many active TNG/Post Nem era films, but, like Intrepid, most are not being made in the USA.
