I figure there are plenty of these. There are many games with stories that basically died because the production company was bought out, or went bankrupt.

I'm trying to only mention series that do not have a sequel either officially announced or under production.

-Deux Ex (sequel, not the forthcoming prequel)
    -Freespace
-X-Wing/TIE Fighter/X-Wing Alliance series (basically do a re-imagining with next gen graphics and a new story, or find a way to tie the story into Star Wars mythos like the others did)
-Portal (coming at some point, but who knows when...)

I'd add Max Payne 3 to that list. Yes, it's going to be released this winter, but they took too long to get it out.

I was shocked when I heard the news, because all prior rumblings beforehand had said that Max Payne was done for good.

But I was mainly trying to discuss sequels that aren't currently known or are likely never going to happen to great games.

A new Wing Commander game would be nice.

If they just re-released TIE Fighter with the exact same story and missions but with a modern graphics engine I would buy 10 copies. At least.

Freespace had a sequel. Strangely enough, it was called Freespace 2.

    Both were awesome :techman:

To add another spaceship piloting sim to the mix... will we *ever* see Elite 4? Braben keeps saying they'll get around to it eventually, I'm not convinced.

I was really hoping for a new Duke Nukem game, but apparently it's a no-go.
I'd like to see a new Test Drive Unlimited, a new Ascendancy, and a new Master of Magic. And I can't wait for Diablo 3 to come out.

It's never going to happen, but Sonic 4.

I'm hoping Sega are going to see how good Capcom's new MegaMan 8 game is going to be, and then decide to release a new 2D game, like the old Sonic games.

It's a long shot, but I can dream damnit!

Yeah, I'm really hoping for a proper Sonic game myself. It's been pretty what has happened to the franchise in terms of quality. I think the last good outing was probably Sonic Adventure 1 or 2 on Dreamcast.

I'd also really love a proper sequel to Streets of Rage.

It would be great to see a sequel to Psychonauts, one of the PS2's very best games, which was obviously set up for further installments. Great characters, great designs, great dialogue, great gameplay, great everything! And yet, the game never sold enough to allow for a sequel - what IS it with this generation of gamers?!

However, there are rumours that the similarily fantastic-but-unsuccessful Beyond Good and Evil getting a sequel, so that brings some hope up.

Here's one that actually fits the thread: Coach K College Basketball. Had hours of fun playing this one on the Sega Genesis. I thought they were going to do with it what they did with Madden and football.

I agree, a true System Shock (2) sequel is really overdue. :p

Also, a sequel to Master of Orion (2, again) that's actually good.

Psychonauts didn't have enough bloom lighting or a color scheme nearly sepia enough for it to be successful.
