I'd like to see an homage to STID in the next movie.

Jack Black as Q, that could so work!

    In theory: AWESOME!

In reality: JJ and Bobby deny it's Q to the point that the audience is exasperated when the denials are revealed as lies.

In a way, I kind of admire JJ and co for doing this, bear with me here. The Star Trek movies have been trying to find the "new Khan" for decades, and failing. General Chang in The Undiscovered Country, the Borg Queen in First Contact, Shinzon was, in John Logan's words, "Picard's Khan." Nero was supposed to be "Spock's Khan." Nemesis ripped off WOK even more than STID did. JJ an co finally decided "screw it, lets just do Khan again and put our own spin on him." In my opinion, the movie worked for the most part. Now that they've done Khan again, they NEVER have to do it again, unless they bring him back in a future movie (he is still alive after all). Personally, I'd like to see The Borg as the villains in the next movie. Either that, or a Federation/Klingon War, which would be a progression from STID.

    STiD - Khan (w/ Khan!)

It is time for a new idea for the Trek movies.

It reminds me of 1986's TVH with the Whale Probe - It was the V'ger story again. It made me wonder if the only stories Trek movies could tell were "Impossibly powerful adversary threatens earth!"

Are the only stories Trek movies can tell 'Khan' rehashes?

Use the Borg. Kirk and the original crew encountering the Borg WOULD be something new. We know that Kirk, and especially younger Kirk, would handle the Borg much differently than Picard did.

Q or the Borg could work if done well.

Fan backlash might be insanely crazy, but when hasn't it?

From the original series - The Doomsday Machine could be fun.

Perhaps not just Khan, but maybe JJ and Bobby have no more ambition than to remake old Trek stories, perhaps mix them up a bit. And maybe that's ok, so long as they drop the "reboot" contrivance.

Q is original? (Twelve appearances across three Trek series.)

The Borg are original? (About six appearances on TNG plus a feature film and appearances on VOY.)

And Jack Black as Q? As a Trek character, he's Harry Mudd, but not Q.

Having Kirk so excited at the end of the movie about finally going into deep, uncharted space, it would be particularly lazy of the writers to fall back on any known Trek antagonists to drive the story. Even the Klingons. I honestly don't envy them if they are trying to come up with something to match the situation of our heroes finally being out there in the final frontier.

No, they can use old villains/groups, but in a different way/context. Kirk encountering the Borg DOES count as something new since its never happened before. The Borg being an established Star Trek race is irrelevant. The movie that's widely considered to be THE BEST one rehashed a villain from an episode of TOS, did that make it bad, NO. If they want a completely new villain, great, but I'm not going to complain if that doesn't happen.

Jason Mewes would be a better Q than Jack Black.

With warp speeds as fast as they are in NuTrek, how is there any uncharted space at all?

Well, if nuSpock can yell, "Khaaaan," then why not something like this:

nuUhura: "Was that good for you?"
nuSpock: "oooooooooohhhh!!!" (then he smiles and winks)

Of course, Spock would also yell this line:

"The line must be drawn heeeeeere!!!" (then he turns green as he grows angry, perhaps breaks some glass toward the camera for the way cool 3D)

Jason Mewes as Q and Kevin Smith as Harry Mudd. Of course they have to meet and hang outside the Quick Stop. Old Spock walks by and then complains "I'm not even supposed to be here today!"

As long as Old Kirk can be the egg-spinner guy.

Bringing old Kirk back would be problematic both because of the new timeline and also the fact that he's dead.
