My fave folk/blugrass band. They hail from NC. I especially like the lyrics to this song... The Avett Brothers: [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j37xdQFJ-Ng[/yt]
All the classic rock music seems to be going strong by getting use in some sort of advertising product(like the one used here on Australia Toyota are using hip to be square to sell their cars)
Yes, I used to think allowing one's song to be used in a commercial was very direct "sellout" of the bedrock concepts of pop/rock and roll music. I don't see it that way anymore. Aside from the financial aspects, the key is to keep your songs/music being heard by as many people as possible for as long as possible. Bands who want to remain "purists", only allowing their songs to be heard by the masses by traditional means, live performance, radio, website, etc, run the risk of their songs being forgotten more quickly than they maybe had to be.
What is "mainstream"? And what is "rock", the American or British English definition? Rock has been the popular music of my lifetime and I am middle aged. What was once marketed as mainstream, sometimes "Southern Rock" is now marketed as "Country" and "country" like "rock" contains many subsets and it is as mainstream as you can get. I am going to steal this so if you do a google search you will find my screen name on other message boards. forgiveness is easier to get then permission We need a Ferengi smilie
