My thinking is there's no reason for the trunks. Zero. So why have them?

(cape is the same way though, I guess, unless it's bulletproof and he can use it to shield people)

And equally, there's no reason for go-faster stripes. Why have them?

Some kind of Kryptonian BS styling, who knows.

I'm actually not wholly opposed to the Kryptonian look they have going on in the midsection there, but I feel like there is a serious missed opportunity to incorporate the shield and bring the red and yellow into the rest of the design. Would have liked a larger yellow belt (Red belt is bad Jim Lee, do you hear me?) but really even a bit of that alien piping around the shield to bring it all together would work fine. Right now it kind of looks like he pasted the shield on top of a Kryptonian suit.

Surprisingly, it doesn't look like the suit is actually all that thick, since we can see vascularity through the suit on his biceps and forearms. I suspect the only place they did any 'filling out' is on the abs where definition is hard to accomplish with something so tight. Looks like they've given it a rubberized coating or something, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is just as thin as the last few suits.

sacrilege. egh. the blue suit and cape is one of the trademarks of the character.

I'm sure the veins were built into the suit. There's no way the material is THAT thin.

It's amazing how much of a difference that made. I could have lived with the big wavy look, but it just didn't say Superman to me the way this style does.

call me a traditionalist, but I see no reason to change the suit. the colour scheme is classic Superman.

There's really no reason for him to have clothes at all, his invulnerable to Earth disease and climate extremes so why does he need a damn suit at all?!

    He's modest. :(

But I don't get what the problem is. I look at those pictures and see fucking Superman. What more do you want?

I can't wait for a wallpaper-worth pic with cape and all.

When the official picture of him in the suit came out, plus some pictures of him has Clark, people here and on AICN complained like crazy that his hair was too poofy!

Fans weren't raving mad over the fact that Batman wasn't wearing grey and black tights in Nolan's film. Not to mention that this version of Superman is much more faithful to the comics than the Nolan version is. With Batman, the entire color scheme is different, plus it's all armor. Even in 1989 they knew that the traditional costume wouldn't work on screen. People just wouldn't take the character as seriously as they could. If Batman can be changed so drastically for film and people can get over it, then there's no reason why Superman can't be changed a little bit.

Oh, there were plenty of fans complaining about the batsuit.
