ANd it makes me think the 'forced perspective' could be a result of the very long nacelles... perhaps this shot is the nacelles after all eh? Scale is hard at this angle!

 

I think its the secondary hull, and the "wings" are the beginnings of the support pylons. Thats the impression I get even from the YouTube versions.

Yes, I get that. However, there seems to be correlation between the front view of the nacelles and this one. Hard to tell... not debunking your theory at all though.

And it's quite a bit more faithful than I expected.

 

I agree that the scale looks off - if this is a nacelle, it's about 3x the diameter we're used to seeing. That being said, however, the shapes look, to me, to be consistent with what we see of the nacelles in the initially-released shot, from the front. I'd say it's a matter of the folks who created the shot getting the scale wrong; I just don't buy that this is the secondary hull - even if it were, the diameter is too great. If this is the correct scale of the new ship, it's going to be a mother!

I think Ptrope is right as to what we are looking at.

I also think that they beefed up the engines, made them chunkier. Like souping up a muscle car.

It has to be looking towards the front of the nacelle.

You can clearly make out a person standing at the very end on top of the bussard collector.

Given the relative size compared with the people in the foreground, it's obvious that it's a long way off... meaning we're looking at most of the length of the nacelle here. From the back, looking forward.

 

If we're going to take a vote, (and, what the hell, why not?), I'd go for Gabe Cowl. Mostly because I think the ship was already fetishized by having that damn nipple, and the additional phallic imagery just muddies the waters. It goes much farther, we won't be able to say she's a beautiful lady that we love anymore.

 

The guy way in the front is all by himself, it's like the other workers are avoiding him by being all near the back.

Poor fellow.

I don't quite understand why people are ignoring the theory that this is NOT a nacelle. It looked like the top of the secondary hull to me from the very first time I saw it. Its like we're looking at the Enterprise's back and the portions on the sides are its shoulder blades...i.e. the bases of the pylons.

 

People aren't ignoring that theory. They just don't think that's what it is.

 

I wonder why no one is bringing up how thin the hull is.

Is the new Enterprise made out of all the Apple MacBook AIR's that no one will ever buy?

Because, that would mean this is more like the TMP ship as the base of the pylons on that ship were more like this then on the old ship, and we can't have that now can we ?
