Ok, first I wanna clear up that this is not to say which movies/scores are snore-fests.

Some of us like to sleep with some kind of background noise on. When I can, I backup my dvd's and blu-rays to an external HDD (so I don't burn out the drives on my PS3/PS4), and set them on "repeat play".

When I'm not feeling restless (or analytical), I like to pop on these movies to go to sleep to, not because they are boring....because they are not, certainly they are among my faves....but because they have serene enough openings, or sometimes just really good music at the start.

    -Extended cut of 1984's DUNE
-The whole miniseries of Dune and Children of Dune
    -Star Trek The Motion Picture
-Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
    -Star Trek Nemesis
    -StarGate
-Classic Battlestar Galactica's pilot movie: Saga of a Star World
-Pilot miniseries to the 2003 Battlestar Galactica
    -The Empire Strikes Back
    -Revenge of the Sith
    -The Black Hole
    -Rob Roy
-The 13th Warrior (to me, the perfect action movie)
    -The Hunt for Red October

Favorite soundtracks to go to sleep to:
    -Alien (Jerry Goldsmith)
    -The Black Hole (John Barry)
-Dune (Toto and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra)
-Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Cliff Eidelmann)
-The Hunt for Red October (Basil Poleduris)
    -Starship Troopers (Basil Poleduris)

    Anyone else? :)

I adore TMP... but can guarantee that if I put on to watch in bed, I'll be out for the count somewhere around one of the V'ger cloud sequences. Magnificent somnolence.

Indeed. :) And there's some beautiful music when the Enterprise is doing her initial flight through the cloud.

Usually, just about any of the movies/scores I listed, I can go to sleep to about 5-20 minutes after the opening credits. (If I'm really bushed, I'm asleep before the opening creds are even halfway finished.) :)
