Why were the writers so inconsistent while writing Neelix?

You're right in your statement. Being not so well educated and homeless was a reason that Neelix became the person he was.

Anyway, I must also state that I actually like the character, mostly because his intentions were good. He knew what it was to be alone and sad and he did his best to cheer up and support those who neded it. Even if he over-reacted many times, his intentions were good and I think that the other crew members respected and liked him for that.

Education isn't what it was today.

Sleepteaching hypnotizes one into being articulate and knowledgeable.

Look how Uhura got a complete Starfleet education in a couple days after she was brain wiped by Nomad.

Neelix was old enough to fight, which means that he had gotten as good an education as he was going to get and probably an adult in the jobmarket when hostility broke out and he ran.

Neelix would probably have the equivilent of 22nd century Human education becuase the Delta Quadrant is perhaps 200 years behind the AQ, so does that mean that Archer and Trip are poorly educated too?

I am tired of Trek captains quoting Shakespeare and reading Dante.

Lets have ones that swagger at the mouth not just at the hips.

I tried to read the first of those books. It was like Frank Frazetta does Starfleet. Couldn't choke it down.

I accidentally started with the third.

So the first line was "Blow those bastards out of my sky"

i looked at the cover, and it clearly said that this was the first "story"

"What a strangely aggressive place to start, half way though a space war" I thought and continued on in...

Eventually I noticed that the first story had been carved into 4 tiny periodicals.

    "sigh"

There are Great Captains here and there, but very few "Onging, continuing adventures"

I really should look into some other fanfilm projects.

Why not a captain who is reading Ian Fleming and quoting Iron Maiden? :techman:

As for the New Frontier books, I have some problems with identifying with the characters, maybe because of the competition from the TNG, DS9 and Voyager characters. But the stories are OK, at least I don't have to see or read about favorite characters from the TV series being killed off or destroyed.

By Klingon standards, Worf is big nerd.

Although not a captain, he captained the defiant a lot because Ds9 smelt funky.
