The SFX would be upgraded in a remake - I can't see any American network buying a sci fi show that has less than reasonable SFX. Thats just the cost of doing business. My hunch is that this remake is even more in the same boat as Star Trek. To get anyone interested would require changes from the original and what changes are required will be driven by who picks it up.

The story says its being shopped to US networks. I hope they mean cable as well as broadcast. On broadcast, it will be a tough sell and even tougher if it gets to air. neilsens are dropping all over the place, not a good environment for any sci fi much less space opera type sci fi.

Oh, of course a remake (either British or American) would be done with today's SFX. I do fear an American remake, they may want to go too far NuBSG or on broadcast, water it down to a limp noodle, but, I'd definitely give it a shot if it came to be

If this does get picked up, then I really hope they do release the original series. I've been wanting to see it for years, but since it's not on DVD I haven't been able to.

They should release the DVDs just to assess interest in America. The biggest benefit of any reboot is having a big brand name - any potential buyer is going to want to assess that.

Did the series even air in America?

It aired on PBS stations over here years ago and it's out on DVD in region two only.

NBC has ordered Dracula, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, straight to series with a 10-episode commitment. Deadline has the story here.

    Is Revolution left wing propaganda?

If Gus Fring is confiscating eveyone's guns in order to conrol society, then that's more like right wing propaganda.

I doubt that's important. I mean, to put it another way, it's an American remake of a foreign TV series. The US Office, Homeland, etc. most of these shows don't assume or require that there is an audience which is familiar with the original program.

At first I thought this was actually the series JMS was attached to and then remembered that was called Vlad Dracula and is on Starz. I wonder how the two rival 19th century Dracula TV shows will fare against each other.

As with Battlestar Galactica if it wasn't for the original series audience there'd really be no talk of a remake. The BBC doesn't own Blake's 7 anymore so it's likely that we might see a region one release of the original series.

If the original series audience is the only reason why there's talk of a BSG remake, then talk is all it'll ever be.

And yet Universal refused to sell the series to Richard Hatch who had a buyer set up to buy it from them. They never would put the eps. together for the VHS movies or put out the series on DVD. If there wasn't an interest from the fans there'd be no reboot.

I'm confused, which reboot are you talking about? (Ron Moore's) nuBSG?

You spoke in the present tense.

The BBC never owned the rights to Blake's 7, it was Terry Nation's and then B7 Productions or whatever they called themselves.

Just one is more than enough for my taste, but eh. Wait for the wheel, as they say. The fad will die. Eventually. Probably. I think.

And one day, space opera will return. Probably. Maybe. I think.

The BBC owned the rights when the VHS tapes and DVDs came out, before Sky bougth the rights.

Ah, sorry, I was thinking we were talking about the rights to produce more of it.
