Just finished VAN: Reap the Whirlwind by David Mack. I think the two things I enjoyed most about this installation were the fast pace of the action and the multi-layered characterization on all levels. Even with all of the names and places the storyline warped between, there was a real sense of developing the characters as well as the Shedai plot. Even though I am mostly doing my initial trek through the LitVerse in chronological order, I'm going to skip over some of the next few Pocket novels in 2266, as well as the Errand of Vengeance / Fury stories to continue on with the VAN story. I'm going to at least read the "Hard News" story in Declassified, then go to VAN: Open Secrets in 2267 before circling back to some things.
First time I've done that in a while. Just finished Old Wounds. Last day of vacation. Read it on one day.
I was in the mood for more Trek yesterday, so I decided to take a break from the Dresden Files: Side Jobs, and started IDW's TNG: Hive comic, which has a story by Brannon Braga. EDIT: Holy crap, I just realized that the guys who wrote Hive, Terry Matalas & Travis Fickett are the creators and showrunners of 12 Monkeys.
ST TOS: Captain to Captain, which I spotted in the bookstore and bought because of Number One. Enjoyed it on the whole, but hope to learn more about Una in the other books. Next up is Christopher Bennett's book about the First Federation.
I read Star Trek Ds9 The Laertian gamble by Robert Shockley. The book reminds of the old Tos book How much just for the Planet. It's a really different for Ds9 story the regular Charcters that's for sure.
So I bit the bullet and read Disavowed despite parts of it taking place in the Mirror Universe. Mack didn't make me 'like it' but at least his approach made it palatable. The rest of the book was very good, Bashir and Section 31 etc. Kept my interest. Now on to Control.
*sigh* That thing where you're struggling with a book, confused by stuff even though it's claiming to be the first of a trilogy, and then discover this is because it's actually the first book of a *sequel* trilogy and you haven't read the previous set... Bollocks.
In honor of Star Wars Day I started reading Jouney to Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Smuggler's Run by Greg Rucka. It was a middle grade novel that was released as part of the lead up to The Force Awakens.
I've changed my mind on that one. I got a whole bunch of comics, so I decided to go back to some of the others I've had waiting to be read, and I'm going to read the Star Wars (Marvel comic)/Darth Vader crossover, Vader Down instead.
Started reading Infinity's Prism this morning. 50 or so pages into A Less Perfect Union. Pretty good. Enjoying it more than I thought I would.
The Myriad universe is fascinating, I loved that story ALPU it has an unexpected and interesting ending IMO.
