New Enterprise dedication plaque

I don't think we have seen it before, have we ?
It appears briefly in the Starships documentary, but we don't get a clue exactly where on the bridge it is.

 

So it's Starship Class! Love it!

Construction on the ground makes finalization in orbit impossible....how?

Look at it this way - modern warship construction starts on dry land, then is completed in the water.

 

It looks like it was made in China.

 

And that changes the name of the ship yard?

 

No, it just means the plaque lists the shipyard the ship was completed, commissioned, and launched from.

 

Usually I'd think that if it construction began in the Riverside ship yards, there would be a corresponding drydock in orbit named "Riverside". No reason to change the name, especially when - as the authors suggested - the Enterprise was built in Riverside because of George Kirk's heroic act.

 

Perhaps Riverside didn't have a corresponding orbital site. *shrugs*

 

Or there wasn't a spacedock large enough for the enlarged design.

 

That's why Andrew Probert was smart enough to create the modular drydock we've seen in TMP. It can be adjusted to fit ANY ship size. And be given any name, too.

The commissioning plaques on modern warships show the following information:

In this case,
Ship's name: USS Midway
Designation: CV-41
Location it was built: Newport News Shipyards
Date of keel laying: 27 October 1943
Date of launching: 20 March 1945
Date of commissioning: 10 Sept. 1945

Now, we know from the movie that NCC-1701 is constructed at a shipyard facility in Riverside, Iowa. The plaque reads: San Fransisco Naval Yard. (Which isn't compatible with what is shown on screen)

Therefore, the NCC-1701 commissioning plaque likely doesn't refer to the construction facility (Riverside) but perhaps it refers the location where the ship was commissioned into service, in this case the San Fransisco Naval Yards.
