The last time I saw Laura Prepon, it was That 70s Show, which I watched maybe the first 3 seasons of and then lost interest. That was a nice interview, especially the tidbits about her having to spend an episode in the dryer. I was watching that episode and the only thought I had was I hope no one comes and turns it on. Yeah I know it was getting repaired, but you never know when you're in the hands of someone who has only been repairing things for a few months. ;)

Thanks for all those links JRulez! I read them all. I liked the Ms. blog review particularly because it touches on how nuanced the show is in terms of class, race, gender, sexuality and the empathy it evokes in us for these people.

I just watched the first episode.

I liked it. It was promising but at this point I have no idea how they make a season out of it. Should make the perfect posterchild for direct-to-stream series and proof that they can be high quality.

This is the first thing other than Throw Momma From The Train and Voyager I've seen Mulgrew in. It's interesting seeing her play a completely different character.

And it was the 5 episodes that really captivated me to think this was an amazing series. I actually forgot what Moscow Mule was about, but then all the episodes seem to blur together if you're on a binge.

Believe it or not, "Pennsatucky", real name, Taryn something or other, has a (old) nude layout in Playboy. She, apparently, is "hot".

I've been trying to get my sister to watch. But she is hung up on the fact that it is set in a prison. I keep telling her that it's not like any prison show, ever, but she is stubborn.

Tell her the ladies at the Trekkbbs HIGHLY recommend the show.

    As does Time Magazine...

    As does Slate.com

    As does Variety

As does the Wall Street Journal.

The New York Times review is a bit tepid... but I wonder if that is in part due to its "role" in the series. ;)

    http://tv.nytimes.com/2013/07/11/arts/television/orange-is-the-new-black-a-nexflix-series.html

The New Yorker likes it much more... and coined my fav line... "its like the love child of Oz and The L Word."

ETA: A great discussion about why this show/series will do better on netflix vs regular TV.

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
You give some one food for a month and lock them in a box for a month, they'll be dead after a week.

Budgeting is more difficult if you're not locked in a box.

"Normal people" can't watch boxsets, or netflix season drops.

They just sit down turn on the tv and watch what ever is on.

They;re also angry because nothing on tv makes any sense any more because of all the episodes they have missed because TIVO is too expensive.

If you are "here" you are not normal.

Normal people have not see every episode of any series, even M*A*S*H* or Friends.

Well, made it through to the end. I gotta say, I don't think I've ever really took notice of anything I've seen Taryn Manning in before but she's really impressed me as Pennsatucky.

Just finished it today. Took me a while to get in to it but I really enjoyed it by the end. Glad I knew there was a second season in the works when I reached the end.

This was posted in the Voy thread, with a link called "5 stages of OITNB.

The 5 stages vid can NOT compete with this one!

Although like the girl in the 5 stage vid, once I was done with this, I was screaming for season 2! :guffaw:

Full of spoilers, so watch at your own risk! :p

Well, this is upsetting. I just saw this on my twitter feed:

    Link

That dynamic between Piper and Alex was one of the great things about Season 1. We'll see how this goes, but I thought this storyline would be something that was the core as long as this was a series. Oh well. Still sad though.

JRulez is gonna have a heart attack..

(I thought she was the most boring character in the whole thing but I know she's hugely popular.)
