The best part is, it's flat - just like Iowa! (and I can make fun of Iowa because I grew up there) Seriously, the entire state is one flat cornfield, with the occasional hog lot or town breaking up the boringness. Try driving through the state, I just got back from a nice long four-and-a-half hour drive through Iowa, and it was very, very boring.

I for one will be sorely disappointed in the new film if we don't get at least one guy in a sombrero taking a siesta underneath the Enterprise's warp nacelle.

Another reason for having the ship constructed on the ground, perhaps?

NE Iowa, a section I'm less than 20 miles away from, is rolling and very beautiful. I will agree with you about the rest of the state, although I do like Iowans a lot. Still...

26138, you do know what I-O-W-A stands for, don't you?

I gave it 19 years, it was flat as can be and not much was going on, but I've never found nicer people than those you can find in rural Iowa. Maybe the reason they chose Iowa to build it is because they wanted a nice flat area with lots of nice people to built it?

I spent around 21 or 22 years there all told. It's on my birth certificate.

I am not in any hurry to return. :D

Sounds like a good reason to me! I'm sure there's a scientific explanation that can be invented as to why flat land is useful, and employing nice people increases the good karma of a project. No wonder the Enterprise was such a great ship.

    Sceintific reason: Corn

Actual reason: Nice people magically sprout from the ground.

Now that the Sombreroprise has been perfected... does anyone wanna try and show it to Shatner?

I don't know how untouchable he is, but even to try and email it to him. Or better still, somehow catch a reaction to him seeing it for the first time.

He's got a "warped" sense of humor, and I'd like to think he'd bust a gut laughing at him as the crazy pez dispensers.

    Oh my....
:guffaw:when his mouth opens and closes it just kills me.
