Well we've had best regeneration story and best post regeneration story, but how about worst regeneration story? Which regeneration story was worst in your opinion?
My vote would probably be different if I saw all of them, but I've only seen War Games, Planet of The Spiders, Logopolis, The TV Movie, Parting of Ways, and End of Time, and out of that, War Games is the one I enjoyed least as it just dragged on for too long. Plus it just doesn't feel like a regeneration story. Out of what I've seen TV Movie is probably the worst send off, bit this isn't a "which did it the worst" poll, this is a least favourite poll.
The War Games is a real triumph of storytelling. One of the finest regeneration stories, along with Logopolis and Androzani.
Personally, I didn't care for it too much as I got a bit bored in it. I was a bit younger when I last saw it though, so my opinion may have changed. But at the end of the day, I like all the regeneration stories I've seen, just had to pick my least favourite. I don't really have much against war games. Just my least favourite which is what the poll is for.
Really unfair to mention Time and the Rani, because its easily the worst of them all. Whatever issues anyone can have about End of Time, its still well made enough, and Willfred is a lovely companion. Not to mention, its really a post-regeneration story. Its Seventh's first story. Its like Castrovalva that opened with Tom Baker regenerating - tahts not a regeneration story, is it? So I'm gonna ignore that option, and say that my least favorite of the rest of them is, really, the TV Movie. As both that, and as a post-regeneration story (rather unique in that regard), its rather lacking, because the Seventh Doctor doesn't really do anything. The only thing he's supposed to do is take care of the Master's remains, and he can't even do that. Plus, his death doesn't quite have the weight of his previous, or his later incarnations. So even without having seen Tenth Planet and Planet of the Spiders, I'm going with that still.
Easiest choice in ages: Time and the Rani. Also an easy choice for Least Favourite Story full stop (no, let's be fair. Silver Nemesis runs it close...)
Heh, had a brainfart and voted my favourite instead of my least favourite. Gotta be rani, followed by spiders & logopolis.
Even as a massive 80s and McCoy fan, I can't say there is a worse regeneration story. I like Silver Nemesis though. My first season.
Of course Castrovalva is a regeneration story. It's essentially the final third of a 3-part story arc that begins with The Keeper of Traken (the return of the Master), continues in Logopolis (the Fourth Doctor falls from the radio telescope and has to regenerate), and the story picks up less than a minute later in Castrovalva, while the regeneration still hasn't finished (it takes the Fifth Doctor most of that story to settle in to his new body and psyche). I'm sure that Planet of the Spiders was an emotional story for the fans who were used to Jon Pertwee as the Doctor. After all, up to that time he was the longest-running Doctor (5 years). My first experience of Doctor Who was the Tom Baker era, and when it came time bid him goodbye in Logopolis, I cried through the whole thing. My choice for the worst, though, is also the Rani story.
I'd have to say Time and the Rani, mainly because the regeneration is triggered by just having the Doctor bounce around the console room a few times. He's been hurt worse than that without regenerating, hasn't he?
Easily Time and the Rani. Terrible story. After that I'm not sure. Maybe Tenth Planet? Not a bad episode but not up to the caliber of the others (although I've not seen Planet of Spiders nor The End of Time, oddly enough).
