Yeah. The police have thrown flash bangs, which were the explosions heard earlier. They want him alive and are taking their time.
The police do not want him alive, they want him dead because that's safer. They would love him alive, but dead is easier. They want him "neutralized". NBC has a guy saying he is covered in blood, and they are afraid he has a bomb vest.
Yes, dead is safer, but they are trying to get him to surrender. I highly doubt that will happen and fully expect this to end with him dead, though.
If he's hiding in a boat shouldn't the FBI and BPD hand the arrest off to the Coast Guard or Navy and Marines?
Boston Police has tweeted: Suspect in custody. Officers sweeping the area. Stand by for further info.
I'm really glad they got him alive. Hopefully the police will be able to get the full story out of him. We need to know if anybody else was involved and if there are any other dangerous devices laying around.
Now he gets to spend the rest of his life in prison...knowing where he is headed after he dies. (Unless he experiences a change of heart, of course. Which is possible.)
They apparently also got three additional people in a residence associated with the bombers - 2 men and one woman. Looks like it's finally over.
Residents of Watertown are outside cheering the police. It's really crazy. I almost moved there two weeks ago...and I used to drive through Watertown everyday before work (up until two weeks ago when I moved closer to work). The whole experience is surreal. It's weird knowing all the areas under lockdown (including your own home).
I wouldn't cheer too much, he wasn't even in the search area. If he wasn't hurt he could have blown other things up.
On the other hand: he probably got hurt by one of the Watertown police during last night's car chase. The media is reporting that he has a gun-shot wound. *shrugs*
I hadn't heard that, but it's not surprising. I'm sure the police are also going to take a look to see if there are any persons of interest at their mosque.
Well done. When you look at the timeline from the explosion point onward - the death and capture did not take as long as I thought it would. Good detective work, and marvelous help from the public. The legal process from here on in will likely be lengthy.
