The X-Files - little things to watch for in the 2016 revival

No doubt, many viewers are anticipating the complex mysteries and intrigues of the upcoming 2016 "X-Files" revival.

But who is anticipating the little tropes that popped up repeatedly in the original series, whether frequently or not-so-frequently?

Here are a few:

* Scully walks into a dark room and calls out to Mulder.
* Mulder walks into a dark room and calls out to Scully.
* Smoking Man says the words "burn it."
* Scully goes through a harrowing experience involving aliens or other bizarre phenomena, and in the very next episode she is back to her skeptical old self.
* Mulder starts running on foot after a car, truck, or train, and then, after several hundred feet, he gives up and slows to a halt, staring at the vehicle as it goes off into the distance.

* Skinner says he can't help, this that and the other thing, then at the last second pulls through.

 

How about, Scully in full sprint...in heels, preferably with her gun drawn.

 

* Artsy episode introductions, with scenery accompanied by Mulder or Scully delivering a prosaic voiceover with some universal theme.

* Skinner is being manipulated by conspirators again, just when you thought all that was over and done with.

Mulder says something sarcastic right before he's about to be shot but something or someone intervenes before it happens.

 

Mulder manages to lose his gun.

 

Mulder sleeps on the couch.

 

That already is going to happen . It's mentioned in the EW interview.

Mulder calls CSM a 'black lunged son of a bitch'.

He touches some evidence and sniffs it.

 

Scully will catch Mulder watching porn.

 

^ But it won't be on VHS any more.

* Nobody being on a first-name basis, despite having worked together for years.

Despite smartphones with caller ID, when Scully calls Mulder the first line will be, "Mulder, it's me" or vice versa.

Eh, by the end of the series, Scully was as much a believer as anyone. I doubt we'll see any of this behavior this time around.

 

Mulder gets his ass kicked.

 

Everyone carries a flashlight that has the intensity of an aircraft landing light.

 

* Will an older Gibson Praise show up, as the key to the conspiracy that was never resolved?

* Why didn't the invasion occur in 2012?

Based on the teasers we have seen so far, it would appear that

Spoiler: Mulder and Scully

Mulder and Scully are no longer together, romantically speaking.

So maybe she went back to her skeptical ways as part of that whole development.

Mulder goes into anaphylactic shock due to a suddenly developed allergic reaction to sunflower seeds. Oddly, he doesn't experience visions about his sister while unconscious.

Scully's ouroboros tattoo mysteriously reappears but has no relevance to the story and is never mentioned.

 

Cellphones work. EVERYWHERE.

Granted this is much less of an issue now than it was in the 90s, but we're talking deep underground, at the tops of mountains, etc...

Mulder and Scully run on foot after a car/truck/van, but loose breath minutes after because both are now in their mid-to late 40's.
