One I just picked up: Sorry for the image quality... I screen-captured the pic and blew it up to wallpaper size. It's a shot of my town from the 1950s -- no, it doesn't look at all like this now.
Mars, baby. It's a photo taken by the Opportunity rover when it first arrived at the rim of Endeavour crater. See a somewhat larger version of the image by scrolling to the bottom of the page here.
Wow. You know, when I was a little kid, I never dreamed I would ever see actual images of another planet. I saw artist's conceptions and such, but never high resolution, full color real-time images of a planetary surface. What luck that it would be my (2nd) favorite planet in the solar system. Sorry, love the wallpaper, and it just reminded me of that. (also, Cool Dashie for the win! )
i honestly need to get my act together and reinstall Seven again. that desktop is just... yummy. btw, icons? what are they called?
My pleasure! http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab338/sarekofvulcan/main/1321852667285.jpg The icon set is called "HydroPro". Now, you could go searching for them and download them, but they're in PNG format. I converted them to ICO format and uploaded them. Here's the zip file: http://www.mediafire.com/?9w0e85pu9rqz7w4
