Check out the videos in my sig, there are a few Voyager ones included, including one that breaks the entire premise of the show.

It's something the writers should've pushed more of from Harry, and he should've been promoted.

biggest WTF!? for me was when Caretaker first aired and there was a black vulcan on board Voyager.

I mean how is that even possible? And with the same facial features and hair of African-American humans? I don't recall there was any suggestion he was half human so it doesn't really make sense. But then one had to suspend your disbelief quite often on Voyager

^ NO reason there can't be racial diversity amongst Vulcans just like there is for humans.

Wasn't there a black Romulan on TNG? I'm thinking maybe it was The Pegasus episode?

Ah yes... But surely a logical race would embrace inter-racial diversity and thousands of years later, there would be neither black nor white Vulcans. Everyone would just be a mixture.

From what we've seen though, white Vulcans marry white Vulcans and black Vulcans marry black Vulcans.

But then there'd be no more diversity...

@stardream: Yes, there was a black Romulan captain in "The Pegasus". And I think the Vulcans seen in ST III (during the fal-tor-pan ceremony) were fairly diverse in terms of race, as well.

There'd be total diversity. You just wouldn't physically see it.

That's the fundamental flaw in "infinite diversity." Sincerely and blindly pursuing it, would inevitably result in infinite homogeneity (which is presumably why black Vulcans marry black Vulcans... to specifically avoid that)

Seems to me that the Vulcan aim to achieve infinite diversity... requires "limited" combinations.

Infinite diversity in limited combinations isn't as catchy though.

he was played by a black actor I think but his skin was normal Romulan colour. why did they feel it necessary to 'yellow him up'?

and why didn't they Yellow up Tim Russ?

They didn't "yellow up" the Romulan from TNG. His skin tone was the same as the actor's. All they did was give him pointed ears and "Romulan hair".

The lighting is different. That alone affects the scene.

Also, you'll notice that the monitor behind Sirol is itself green, that is making people think Sirol's skin is greenish. And the ensign is surrounded by black (the bulkheads and also the top of his uniform) so that makes his skin look darker.

On Earth today, most arranged marriages are with not too distant cousins or in the same ethnic/religious community.

    (it's only logical)

And perhaps Vulcans - those whose marriages aren't arranged, which I'm sure does happen - have a similar tendency that humans do, to date and marry those of same or similar race.

sounds like a lot of excuses. they clearly lightened his skin when he was the Romulan

As long as randomness works the exact opposite way from how it does in the real world, yes.
