Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Destroying DS9 would seem to be a logical choice, considering that as a relaunch franchise, there hadn't technically been any new DS9 novels in quite a while. And in story terms, almost all of it's former crew have gone their own seperate ways. So the need to keep the station around is kinda moot.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) I think DS9 has enough major characters still left - Bashir, Ro, Quark, Jake, Kasidy and Rebecca, but a lot of the positions - the first officer, security, engineering etc could be filled with new characters.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) ^Exactly. I'm one of the people who thinks the station on the second book is a new station on the GQ side of the wormhole. That makes alot more sense to me than destroying DS9 and replacing it with a new station. Besides if they do destroy it then for the new station to be as far along as it appears be on the second cover, then there would have to a pretty big time jump, and I doubt we'll see a jump that big in between the two halves of a duology.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) I also think it's likely to be a station on the Gamma Quadrant side, but I feel constrained to point out a third possibility just for thoroughness's sake: there's no reason there couldn't be two stations on the Bajoran side of the wormhole. Space is pretty roomy, after all.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) ^True. Starfleet could decide to build a new station just for Starfleet personnel and operations, relegating DS9 to civilian control for civilain purposes. Of course, I don't think the majority of Bajorans would shed a tear if DS9 were to go. The station has been put to good use but it is still a Cardassian design and a reminder of the Occupation, the seat of Gul Dukat.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Or building a new station nearer to Bajor itself. *shrug* It IS a Federation mamber now and might need a closer station for various reasons.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Not to mention that a station built to support mining activities is unlikely to be an efficient piece of equipment for much else.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Except the Excelsior switched to NCC in TUC. There's a fourth possibility which you of all people should see: Alternate timeline.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) And the USS Galaxy did as well (DS9), as did the second Constellation (was NX-1974 in ST VI, and NCC-1974 in subsequent appearances).
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Isn't DS9 referred to as being the "Gateway to the Celestial Temple" by the Bajorans? That would make it pretty important to them.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) I'm aware. But, again, Mission: Gamma already established that the Defiant is still being used as a testbed for new technologies -- so the NX registry is still appropriate.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Simon and Schuster have made Plagues of Night searchable: http://books.simonandschuster.com/S...I/Star-Trek-The-Next-Generation/9781451649550
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) I see an "outstanding" rating now. Have people been finding it as of late?
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Looking forward to this DRGIII title
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) I just don't think the destruction of DS9 can be justified. Bad enough it's been neglected and forgotten about for so many years after being the source of the relaunch itself, and so successfully I might add. To return to her only to then totally take her away forever? No, I can't tolerate such. It's too much. I feel like Picard in First Contact. They invade our space, and we fall back. Assimilated entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here. This far, no further! They've killed Janeway, they've neglected DS9, they've made Ezri Dax a Captain, they took a pretty big steaming one on Sisko's character in the last novel to feature him (which I'm hoping they repair/retcon) - but to destroy such a key piece of AQ real estate, the very setting and heart of one of the series? No, too far. If it's done, so am I. May not count for a whole hill of beans, but... it's where I draw the line. If the only 24th century Trek we're ever going to get again is to be done at the cost of so much? It's not worth it. It's too great a sacrifice.
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) "They kill off Janeway, they screw with Sisko's character, they skip four years of DS9 without explaining anything, and now people are talking about destroying DS9. Not again. The line must be drawn HEYAAAHH, this far, no farther!"
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Just got my copy today - I'm only 2/3rds through the DS9 relaunch, so it'll take me a while to get to this but just wanted to make a comment. I just flicked to the last page and read the last line: OMG!
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Chris, such a tease. *lol* I'll be looking for a copy today/tomorrow. Hope it's there....
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Will you make them pay for what they've done?
Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!) Don't be such a tease. For those interested. Spoiler: The ending Spoiler: It'll spoil the whole book Spoiler: There's no going back Spoiler: You've been warned Spoiler: Last chance "Oh, Jake," Nog sighed, "you give the best oo-mox."
