I don't know why he turned it down, but why would he be generally against appearing in Trek?

I can see why you might think A-list stars or people who are known for art movies could be, but someone known as a genre actor?

You don't think there's a *reason* he didn't want to do DS9? It wasn't that he was unavailable or couldn't find the time, he flat out said he didn't WANT to do it. There's always a reason for that. And he has done TV before, just not this.

If we're going to pull a new captain out of NCIS, let's grab the boss. Mark Harmon projects leadership and confidence.

    Please no twenty-something captains!

Michael Weatherly is close to 40, if not already there. Like me, he looks young for his age.

Mark Harmon would be more suited as a Commodore or an Admiral.

I'm wondering *what* reason was there, if he actually didn't want to do Trek. He's done all sorts of genre TV. Am I supposed to think that Trek is beneath him, but "Lois and Clark", "Hercules" or "Xena" are not? (Yeah, I know why he was cast in the latter two.)

Its' a bid hard to say who has to play the roll if nothing about the character is established. Sean Connery for example is a decent actor, but I doubt he would have worked out as Kirk in the latest film. Anyway, I take Ewan McGregor, provided he grows another beard.

Shes ugly and acting-wise...she wouldn't make a very charasmatic lead for a Star Trek series.

Todd auditioned for the role of Sisko, having already played Kurn. He also played the role of adult Jake in The Visitor. He would have been great, but I believe that he was having drug problems at the time they were casting, which cost him the job.

Kim appeared in VOY and was a first officer in the short-lived Crusade. I didn't like the show, but he definitely had the right stuff to play a commanding officer. No wonder he used to turn up on wish-lists to play Sulu in any remake or reboot of TOS.

On Sandra Oh as the lead in a future Trek series:

Eye of the beholder, I suppose. I find her to be quite fun to look at, personally.

Well, she might not come across as a typical "Star Trek captain", but that might be a good thing, too.

If you want a radical departure what about either Vivica Fox or Michelle Rodregez

I don't think a radical departure would be smart.

Especially now when a Kirk-style Captain is popular with the masses and what everyone wants to see.

You need an entertaining space cowboy-type Captain that can show authority yet be humorous.

....Otherwise we'll end up with Janeway again and her almighty principles.

    *Yawn*

Star Trek is changing. It can't go back to the 90s era stuff.

Only if there is an automatic clothing replicator built into the turboloft...

    "Quick Robin!! To the turboloift!!!"

***WAY*** too British. We don't want a captain to be THAT evil. This isn't an Imperial Star Destroyer we're talking about...

I thought British people were only evil if they talk in RP accent? :shifty:

In Star Trek, British people are ALWAYS evil...

Unless they're playing something other than British, like French or Betazoid...

Americans don't know the difference. There are two types of British accents:

    1) Evil.

    2) Can't understand what they fuck they're saying.

Alexander Siddig was born in Sudan...

Malcolm Reed IS evil. Totally evil. He just has an extremely overdeveloped sense of duty, which makes him DOMESTICATED evil...

And Malcolm Reed could so VERY command an Imperial Star Destroyer...
