I had one look at the new Deep Space 9 novel covers and thought, "Why didn't they use the spider docks or utopia planetia parking station design, Jupiter Station with new decals, or even a Regula-Class station with a couple of Nemesis style construction/repair units sandwiched between them?" WHY OH WHY this?

I agree with you that the new DS9 is fugly, but it's a fitting design considering how badly Trek Lit seems to handling the Prime universe. They have some good ideas, they are just executing them terribly.

Nothing can beat Terok Nor DS9 in terms of station design for pure bad-assery.

Nope, I love the new design. Terok Nor was one of the ugliest things I've ever seen in oldTrek.

Yes. That huge freakin window they put in the design is just an invitation to sudden and catastrophic explosive decompression.

Sure. And the Titanic was "unsinkable".

Exactly. That material may be transparent, but it could be as hard as the rest of the station's hull.

It's basicly how the original DS9 was designed for the show, untill one of the producers said make sure those pylons DON'T connect on top and down below, and we have a winner. And Terok Nor/DS9 was born.

    Hmmm...transparent duranium and tritanium.

If they can do it to aluminum...

I hate it but will still read the books, I think this fan built station would have been perfect for the new DS9

It's just a book cover. Where's your imagination?

^ Well, the link that was posted upthread contains some beauty shots (if you could call it that) of the new station design.

Having said that, I haven't really enjoyed the DS9 books all that much and I only really read them out of some sense of loyalty to the show itself and wanting to know what happens next. Since it turns out the original DS9 is basically being scrapped anyway, I no longer have a reason to keep on reading.

Not a fan but I don't hate it. There was a certain character to the old DS9 that I feel a Federation redesign would be unable to capture. Then again, the Galaxy class is not the Constitution class.
