    Love those lists, great choices!
I was also thinking Terrence Howard would do good as Sam Bowers.

definitely not for the first and the second is nowhere near avuncular enough.

My top pick for Mac is still Joe Flanigan.
What do you guys think of Korean actress/singer Hyun Jyu Ni for Trys? I saw her in the KDrama Iris on Hulu, and I thought she would be a pretty good match for how I picture Trys. I tried to find some clips from scenes with her, but couldn't find any.

Hmm... conceivably. Especially going by a picture more like this:

Not ideal, but in the ballpark. Just going by looks, that is.

For "Blackjack" Harriman (John Harriman's father, in The Captain's Daughter and the second Lost Era book)--I've long imagined Jack Nicolson.

Re-reading the Star Trek: Vanguard series, I used to imagine T'Prynn as played by Amy Acker in full-on "Illyria" mode. Yet now, I find myself imagining Yvonne Strahovsky, of Chuck fame, with hair dyed black. (Strahovsky often was called upon to do the cheesecake in that show, but she's actually a really talented actor capable of being very menacing when needed.)

I find both Acker and Strahovsky too soft as type. I think T'Prynn needs the coldness of a Jodie Foster.

Well, I can see where you might come away from Chuck thinking that Strahovsky is too "soft." Her character's arc on that show is to go from cold and aloof to warm and affectionate. But if you look at the early episodes, she's more than capable of being quite cold.

But I can't imagine looking at Acker's performance as Illyria in Season Five of Angel and not thinking she's perfectly capable of being cold and hard. She's absolutely chilling as Illyria.

I found Illyria to be chilling as well, but mostly because of what her existence meant in terms of the transformation of Fred (the episode in which it happens was nothing sort of gut-wrenching - I'm not normally easily emotionally disturbed, but memories of that episode are very actively unpleasant to this day). I don't think Acker acted her all that well - I just don't buy cold and evil from her.

As for Strahovsky, I actually only have her voice to go by, to be honest. I have only vague memories of the Chuck pilot at this point and never watched more. But she voices (and lends her physical likeness to) a key character in Mass Effect 2 who is trained paramilitary, and even then doesn't seem particularly hardassed.

Well, your mileage may vary, but I literally don't know how you could say that. Chalk it up to different aesthetic tastes.

I can't speak to anything related to Mass Effect.
