Spies Like Us The Duchess Let the Right One In The Black Balloon Star Trek City of Lost Children Samson & Delilah The Dish District 9 City of Lost Children I'd already seen before. The others I was watching for the first time.
Got together with a buddy of mine last night, went to see Taking Woodstock. It was an alright movie, filled with quite a few familiar faces, but I wasn't too thrilled with it overall. My buddy Ryan seemed to enjoy it, though. I've already got passes to see World's Greatest Dad at a screenin' next week. - In Theaters - Gran Torino* Frost/Nixon Inkheart* Fanboys Friday the 13th (2009)* The International* Watchmen* Monsters vs Aliens* Fast and Furious* Star Trek (2009)* The Soloist* Battle for Terra* X-Men Origins: Wolverine Band from TV Concert Video Drag Me to Hell* Away We Go* Terminator: Salvation Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Moon Paper Heart* G-Force* (500) Days of Summer* G.I. Watchmen - ech. Overblown, pretentious baloney. What a waste of (some) good actors. The music choices were aggressively stupid (Dylan? Phillip Glass?) Oh well I just watched it to see why everyone hated it.
Got together with some friends yesterday, to see The Time Traveler's Wife. Most of us have already read the book, and the one hold-out had borrowed my copy and is currently readin' it. The book was so much better! I know they have to cut characters, situations, and make a few changes, here & there, but for cryin' out loud... Anyway, addin' it to the list! And I'll be goin' to a free advanced screenin' of World's Greatest Dad tomorrow night. The Savage Seven - While I watched I thought this 60's bikers vs. native americans movie was so bad only Tarantino could love it...and I checked, he does. Elizabeth - 1998 Cate Blanchett movie about the Virgin Queen. She gives a good performance, but too much blatant fictionalization in the plot where there needn't be. I'll still try to catch the sequel. Public Enemies - What is it with Bale? Is he only gonna take roles where he gets outshown by another male actor? Pretty decent movie, but not Micheal Mann's best at all. Again, some fictionalization kinda soils it. Embellishment is expected in such movies, but changing Baby Face Nelson's death...not so forgivable. Angels and Demons - Tom Hanks, the hero for middle-aged average guys who can't fight. To be fair, it was watchable for utter bullshit. Inglourious Basterds - Overblown (by Tarantino's fans), pretentious baloney (my zoology professor made the same point about rats and squirrels once)...but still fun.
Notorious - Stilted, overlong semi-hagiography. Moral of the story: don't let your mother executive-produce your biopic, especially not if you're dead. I should have gone for the one with Ingrid Bergman.
Went to the free screenin' of World's Greatest Dad tonight. It wasn't good at all... ...still, gotta add it to the list. I'll be goin' out tomorrow to pick up passes for free screenings of 9, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Sorority Row. The screenings themselves are spread out, Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. I'm hopin' to hear back about a pass for The Informant, too, but I think its on Thursday night, so I may be out of luck.
