Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII Man, you guys are crazy. It's a new Star Wars film that isn't a prequel and it's going to have the original trio in it (most likely). How could you not be incredibly excited? I'm incredibly excited. I feel like getting in line at a theater for the movie today.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII ^ And even though nothing official's been announced, Anthony Daniels is likely coming back as Threepio given that he's portrayed the role in just about every incarnation of the Star Wars universe that's featured him.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII It could just be left over imperial junk for sale or something like that like we saw in Mos Eisley. Just junk in the dessert.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII Yeah, if you've ever looked at some of the franchise's visual guides published in recent years you might notice an authorized artist's map of Mos Eisley that featured the headquarters of the local Imperial garrison, depicting AT-ST Scout Walkers and other similar vehicles that we didn't actually see on-screen until the later films. We know that AT-ATs operated on Endor in Return of the Jedi so for all we know they were also deployed on Tatooine at some point prior to the setting of Episode VII. After the deaths of the Emperor and Vader and the Rebel victory at Endor quite a bit of Imperial military equipment could have been abandoned and left to rust. They would have been ripe for the picking by Jawas and other scavengers.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII Ooooh, I wanna see a used Tie-fighter lot in the new movie.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII Whoever had the bright idea to use AT-STs on Endor should have been demoted. And by that I mean demoted the way Vader does it. Then again, it's probably the same guy who thought it would be a good idea to ride speeder bikes in a forest.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII ^ Well the AT-ST was at least somewhat mobile and nimble, and could maneuver through the forest fairly well. What really makes no sense is the use of the huge, lumbering AT-ATs on Endor (what did they have to do, shoot down every tree that got in their way?). Of course the AT-ATs didn't really make a whole lot of sense on Hoth either, but that's another matter. Lol
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII And the guy in charge of Stormtrooper target practice sessions.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII whelp, the AT-ATs are weapons of fear - not necessarily the best tactical weapons. You're supposed to see them and GTFO.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII The big thing to remember about the Jedi in Episodes I - III is that they are fucking idiots, and in certain cases (Yoda, Obi-Wan), arrogant fucking idiots. Lucas wasn't a good enough writer to get the message across clearly, but it's pretty easy to read the films as saying that the Jedi and the Sith were equally terrible, both lusting for power, but one side being more competent at gaining it and holding onto it.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII I thought the idea that the Jedi were partly responsible for their own downfall because of their arrogance came across pretty well. The Jedi Order and the Republic were infested with arrogance and corruption.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII That's a pretty blanket statement, but I do think that in the end it was a matter of pride that fell the Jedi. Pride in their abilities. And we only have Palpatine's word on how corrupt the Republic was and really he engineered the corruption to allow himself to gain control of the senate.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII I do think it's a little silly that people are getting excited about a picture of a unidentifiable hunk of metal, but this is SW and until we have real information on the movie, people are going to get excited by anything related to it.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII So, not to be indelicate... but have Hamill and Fisher lost any weight at all for the movie? I know there were some stories last year that they had been assigned personal trainers, and the studio wanted them to slim down some, but from most of the pics I see online it doesn't look like they really have. Which seems a bit odd to me. Even if they're gonna be hidden under robes and cloaks, I would think the actors themselves would still want to look as good as they could in the movie (and yes I realize it's kinda bizarre to be discussing the weight of people in their 60s, but we are talking about Luke and Leia here, and it'd be nice if they at least looked a little like their old selves. Lol)
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII There's only so much an actor or actress could realistically do, but I imagine they're both in the process of trimming down to whatever extents they can. Audiences don't expect Hamill to look just like Luke did in Jedi and most of us logically understand what the passage of 30 years can do to anybody, whether a real life actor or a fictional human being. Between exercise and makeup I believe both Mark and Carrie will be ready for the cameras.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII I hadn't seen that Mark had put on any considerable weight.
Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII That's not actually Lucas' message, so his failure to "get it across" isn't actually a failure. It's not what he believes. He's not a part of this modern inability-to-distinguish-between-good-guys-and-bad-guys thing, but it's cute to see the proponents of that belief system trying to drag him down to that level. In light of the events which transpire in the films, "the Jedi and the Sith were equally terrible" is frankly a ridiculous claim on its face, to the point where it's somewhat difficult to interpret as a serious statement. The Jedi, unlike the Sith, do not "lust after" power. They do not seek power for its own sake. They are not adherents to the dark side of the Force. They abjure possession and greed, not exactly a typical characteristic of the power-hungry. They do, however, seek to do what is necessary to fulfill their assumed role in defending the Republic and democracy, while the Sith have other goals in mind. As such a more credible comparison would be to the likes of Abraham Lincoln.
