Unless a Kryptonian is near a yellow sun they won't have those famous super powers...How would Star Trek deal with Kryptonians??? This is just for fun...weather Krypton would have been destroyed before Star Fleet( UFP ) would have gotten involved is not the issue...Would a Kryptonian be useful on a Star Ship???

No more so than any Human.

Unless of course, if they happen to be in a system with a yellow sun. Then they could save any additional stress on the engines by having the Kryptonian get out and push.

Does Superman lose his powers when leaving the solar system?

I think a Kryptonian can store energy when near a yellow sun...but the they lose it the more they use it...away from a yellow sun...Superman required a "Solar Suit".

What happens when Superman goes near other types of stars like white dwarfs?

What if he goes in one of those systems that have two stars, circling one another? Does it cancel out the effect or double it?

I guess a Kryptonian would just absorb the energy from the yellow sun and the other would have no effect...if wearing a "solar suit" I guess it wouldn't matter.

Pretty sure it's just the wave length of light he can't absorb, so other suns would probably work.

He draws his powers from the sun because it's a yellow sun (Kryton's sun was red). So, if he leaves the solar system, he needs a suit.

I always wondered what would happen if Superman went to a star system with a blue star.

He could look through the clothes of all those hot Trek babes with his X-ray vision.

(Hey, somebody had to mention it.)

Of course, that particular power wouldn't be of use to anyone else aboard unless he was also telepathic.
Superman LOVES white dwarfs! Especially when they're all furry.

In the olden days, non-G-type stars not only could not be used as a source of fuel for Superman's powers, but actively sucked the powers out of him (e.g., the classic Eliot S! Maggin story, "Must There be a Superman?"). Because DC comics is presently run by monkeys, this has been in part revived (Superboy Prime was originally caged in a red sun eater, for example).*

Leaving aside the idea that Kryptonians evolved superpowers fueled by the light of another kind of star than the one they lived under, presumably no one who ever wrote a Superman comic ever looked up the term "blackbody radiation."

*You will note that I cut Maggin slack and Johns none. Historical relativism is an acceptable method of dealing with the world. :p

Anyway, Kryptonians capable of serious interplanetary travel would rapidly discover the effect of yellow suns on their biology, and would basically be the sole arbiter of the Alpha Quadrant's fate. The only people who could give them a run for their money would be our Assorted Space Gods (Qs, Founders, Organians, Metrons, the Greek xenotheoi like Apollo, and so forth).

Are we also assuming Krypton never exploded? Because that's the source of kryptonite.

    *spit take* :guffaw:

OT, the effects of other suns on Superman has changed over the years (hence references to solar suits and blue stars=more power, etc.). Travelling at warp speeds, a Starfleet ship could get close to a yellow star to power up their token Kryptonian fairly quickly. There's also probably some way to recalibrate or modify the radiometric tranformer to emit a high-level microburst of solar readiation in the proper spectrograhic range, or some such technobabble.

A Kryptonian on your ship would be a huge tactical advantage for all the reasons that Superman is super.
