A little something new I'm cooking up for ADB-related art. This ship is the F5 frigate, the general workhorse of the Klingon fleet. Small enough to be produced in large numbers, but more capable than the frigates of the neighboring empires, the F5 has carved out a reputation for itself as an exemplary ship design. Check it out:

Nice... That's the first new Klingon design I've seen in a while... Everything about it says this is a Klingon ship. I would accept this over the existing BoP...

It may not be your design, but your rendering improves upon the original. Looking good. :techman: Can't wait to see more.

Now get back to work and make more Trek goodness! :p

Always loved the F5 in SFB. A sturdy little ship. This just looks great!

You know, for a Klingon ship... It's kind of cute.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

It's a very nice model, though I find the design a bit bulky looking.

From some angles it looks great from other angles it looks like something from the animated series. Great work!

Man! I really like this design! Looks like it could fit right into a TOS episode.
Far too often, new designs for TOS era venture into near 24th century technology.

I, for one, never really cared for the Bird of Prey (at least for the TOS movies). Something like you designed would have been much better -- with maybe some plating added to keep it consistent with the K'Tinga class battle cruisers.

    Again, great job!

If there's one thing Steve Cole can do(apart from design and manage an awesome game with incredible longevity), it's design ships that look like they belong in the TOS era. :p His design sense is completely unfettered by "kewlness", which is why a lot of Star Trek fans don't like SFB ships. And it's also why I try to make the same SFB ships look good in my renderings without resorting to J.J. Abrams-style weird redesigning; to prove that the TOS era can look good(plus SVC wouldn't let me redesign his stuff even if I wanted to).

This ship would nicely fill the role that the Klingon Bird of Prey was meant to fill. No cloaking device(SFB klingons don't cloak), but a small, fast, dangerous ship. It would have been nice to see something akin to this in the movies and TV shows instead of a misappropriated Romulan design.

    Anyway, thanks everyone!

Very nice, from this angle[IMG]It really looks like it decended from the ENT-ERA Klingon B-O-P. Once again, good job!

Real nice looking F5! All the times I've looked at it, and I never noticed that the nacelles face out instead of in, like the D7. I really need to improve my "powers of observation". :alienblush:

I agree that SVC completely grasps the aesthetic of TOS. A lot of people just don't concern themselves with a design being right or wrong. Just, as you say, the koolness factor.

You're exactly right on that! You were wise to skip the "kewlness" factor. :techman:

Now that you have it all "painted and grated" it's not so cute looking anymore and seems ready for business. Really nice looking design.

Maybe you can make the D5 (One of the baddest CWs ever) look a little less like a slightly shrunk D7?

    Icy_Penguino,

    Here's my constructive criticism
    - Back of Hammerhead is too curvy: Look at the D-7 for comparison
    - Wing Centerbody and Wing-Shape too curvy: Looks too curvy, bendy and out of place with the D-7 design.
    - Vents on the wings are absolutely gigantic, I see no reason why they should be that huge.
