Well, my movie blog's unsourced rumors say that both of those sites are full of shit, and that the real director of STIII is going to be Anthony C. Ferrante, director of the smash hit SyFy TV movie Sharknado. The film will be titled Star Trek Bearpocalypse (no colon) and the plot will revolve around the Enterprise saving Earth from a global blizzard full of genetically engineered polar bears that were created by a rogue Starfleet admiral, borrowing heavily from an unfilmed Damon Lindelof script for Lost. You heard it here first, folks.

Seriously though, it's way too early in the game to be getting worked up over completely unfounded rumors.

JoBlo probably got it from Latino Review http://latino-review.com/2013/08/05...o-the-top-contender-is-to-direct-star-trek-3/

And that scares me. Latino Review has had A LOT of big scoops that turned out to be accurate.

More scary because of this guys previous credits:
When the Kids Are Away (2002)
Step Up 2: The Streets (2008)
    Step Up 3D (2010)
The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers (2010–2011)
Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (2011)
    G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013)
    Believe 3D (2013)

I would move mountains for Steven Spielberg to direct.

I would also do the same for Brad Bird,

I would even take James Cameron as a director for Trek 2016 as long as he does not write the script.

David Yates and Peter Jackson will be cool directors for Trek as well

Am sorry to break this to you guys but it would be better if trek 2016 gets an A List critically acclaimed director.

Bryan Singer is great, he directed X2 and produced First Class , it just happens that both films are considered to be the best X-Men films. However I am not a fan of how he incorporates one sided political/social propaganda in his films.

I see your Ratner and raise you Joel Schumacher. Who better to pick up the third movie in a four part film series.

The source material for X-Men is "one sided political/social propaganda". And there's nothing wrong with a writer or director using a film to promote their point of view.

Nipples on the uniforms, neon lights all over the bridge, and it will be a direct adaptation of The Way to Eden.

Speaking as a huge x-men fan, who has read all the comics for 20 years. I would disagree. X-men was about tolerance and tolerance is never one sided.:)

While we're at it, will the X Men films be prohibited in Russia now? ;-)

    Please Paramount, get Steven Spielberg

All the Trek fans hating on JJ Abrams. I sure hope some of you get what you deserve.

JJ did great with Trek. the critical and commercial success is solid proof and now that JJ is gone , here we are scrambling for shady directors.

Its so sad...a lot of trek fans rather see Trek stay second rated to star wars just for the purpose of casting a director with a shady resume.

Wars had JJ, Trek should get Spielberg.

Has Spielberg ever expressed interest in any form of Star Trek?

    NO,

However he is JJ's friend and mentor, he also produced Super 8 and I love Steven and his films so that counts;)

I've never seen that Bieber movie, and likely never will, but GI Joe: Retaliation was a loud, incoherent mess; although, the ninja mountain fight was kind of enjoyable :). Singer would be great, and Bird would be even better, maybe :).
