There was an editing mistake during the angry mob scene. I don't remember the exact words, but here is sort-of what was said and my response.

Senator Travers: I am from earth.

Angry Mob Member: Show us your long form earth certificate!

Senator Travers: What would it take to convince you people?

Me: Um, what they just asked for? You know, that earth certificate they just mentioned a few seconds ago.

About the ending... The "Mary Sue" senator wins the election. Then, he won't go back in time, and Nixon wins. When that happens, shouldn't that cause Travers to go back in time and win the election? But then, he won't go back in time again, causing Nixon to win. It is an infinite time loop. Captain Janeway says it best. "I hate temporal paradoxes."

Thief of Baghead

I think Calculon should have won. I believe he will be back. Many robots have a back up unit.

 

I really liked "The Thief of Baghead," especially of the film photography jokes. Here's hoping Calculon stays dead but I'm not holding my breath.

 

Why would he? As previously established, they like their continuity. It wasn't long ago that they established that when a robot "dies" their memories are downloaded into a new, duplicate body. Bender doesn't have that ability, but other robots do. Why wouldn't Calculon just download into a new body and continue acting like usual?

 

Yeah...that "back up" unit reveal raised some continuity questions.

Odd that earlier Bender thought he was a disabled robot and toured with Beck...bringing attention to disabled robots everywhere.

Why wouldn't the robots just "die" and download into new fully functioning bodies?

What about the robots that are "born" not manufactured? How can they be downloaded into a duplicate body?

 

I wouldn't be surprised if they did a nuBSG reference at some point.

They did a quick nod to the original in that very episode with Cylon & Garfunkel.

 

7:5 Zapp Dingbat

Minor spoilers

Not bad, seems like they are throwing recurring characters together for sitcomy stuff, reusing familiar sets...er...locales.

Obligatory creature cantina homage. The return of the Borax Kid.

Leprechauns sewer surfing...haw!

Enough Nixon and Agnew already! Over use on them.

We need more Leela pole dancing, though.

Ended how those types of episode always end, except the Simpsons one with Milhouse's parents...

Better episode than its premise sounded.

 

If I read the sign right, it was "The Mos Def Cantina."

There was some decent character stuff here, and I liked the continuity touches, having the story grow out of last season finale's change of status quo for the sewer mutants. I'm never very fond of the scatological gags in the sewer episodes, though.

 

Now I've seen 4 out of 5 this season that I really enjoyed. Futurama hasn't been this good for me since the Fox years.

 

I liked it. Nothing spectacular, but a very solid episode with some good jokes. I'm a big fan of the sewer mutants and Zapp and Kiff, so any time they pop up I'm usually pretty happy.

 

Not sure how I feel about this episode. I mean, I usually like Zapp getting his - but this time, he finally made it with a woman for a second time. And, it seems, she actually enjoyed it this time. Did he have an actual human emotion?

SO tired of Nixon and Agnew. This is, what, the fifth episode of the season? And they've been in every single episode? Enough already.

Poor Leela's dad, just getting kicked to the curb like that. But as long as he surfs, she'll come back? I suppose it makes as much sense as the Mommy Porn they're currently selling in the supermarket.

That said, my favorite moment of the series may have just happened in this episode ... Fry and Leela are talking about marriage, and she's not leading him on, saying he's not ready right now, but he will be. All together now "Awwwww"

 

I liked this one. Leela's mom is a good character, and shows with Zapp and Kif are almost always fun.

Oh no! I've been wondering if anyone around here has been caught up in all the BS. I have Comcast, but who's to say they wouldn't get hit, too? I don't want to have to worry about what service/channel combo I have and whether my shows will turn up on time, or to have to read Deadline to find out what's going on. After the Olympics, I'm cutting the cord and switching to Roku/Netflix.

 

7:6 The Butter Junk Effect

Predictable but fun, no attempt to explain the ending...

That lava would cook everyone in vicinty of it. But, hey, it's a cartoon.

Could've used more Crushinator, too.

 

This was pretty fun, with a lot of good gags. I liked seeing the Grand Midwife/Park Ranger again. And Amy and Leela were kind of sexy as musclewomen. The steroid-abuse angle was handled rather superficially and half-heartedly, I thought.

About the lava not burning them alive, I know it's mainly just cartoon physics, but... since they're on the Moon and the gravity's lower, that would mean there's less buoyancy (since that's directly proportional to gravity), so wouldn't that mean there's less convection? So maybe the hot air above the lava isn't rising as quickly or as much. Heat radiation and conduction would still be factors, but the reduced convection might make conditions a bit more tolerable. If I'm right that it's reduced at all.

 

Wow, I actually remembered to tape it this week. I think they showed last week's ep, too. Now to find time to watch them....

 

DirecTV victim, er, "customer" here, so I'm in the same sinking boat within shark infested waters. I've missed the last two episodes because (according to DirecTV) Viacom is holding its channels for a rate hike ransom. I'm just glad this first season of "The legend of Korra" had finished before this fiasco. Otherwise I'd REALLY be irked!
