Nice, but unfortunately it's missing some of my favorites. Chattaway's "Carbon Creek" is the one that stands out most in my memory of his ENT scores. And I think it was John Frizzell's "The Forge" score that I felt had some really beautiful stuff in it, and that's not here. Still, I'm glad to see Baillargeon's "Vox Sola" represented. That's one of my favorites of his, though I would've also liked to see "Rogue Planet" and "Rajiin" included.
The weirdness in the tracklist: one cue here, two there, so forth, that's a Thaxton thing. Some people think they know beter what cues about 3,000 other people will like. Now I'm worried about the mastering becuase he likes to do it by the "Car test" -- how it sounds when you play it in your car. Certainly not what regular LLLR's CD's sound like, or Intrada CD's, or Film Score Monthly CD's. Anyway, while this is indeed a great release, it's just fragmented good scores. That's the most frustrating thing. His Emmy-winnign score to "Similatude" has been cut down to three cues. At a minimum I couldn't have cut it down beyond four. Now I'm stuck with the boot. His excellent score to "Silent Enemy" has been cut down to a mind-boggling three cues. At best I could have pruned that down to six cues, but more like ten. Another boot I have to hold on to. "Civilization" has also been cut down to three cues, unfortunately. On the plus side, it looks like most, if not all, of Mark McKenzie's excellent score to "Horizon" has been included. With a score like that, it's a shame he wasn't asked to do more for the series. I don't even get the "Fan Favorites" section. None of these scores were markably more requested than other titles already included in the set. In fact, Tyler's other effort for the show, "Canamar", was requested more than the other. Personally, I don't get the love for his two scores for the show, both are skippers to me, but as long as fans are happy, that's what counts. I love McCarthy's work for the show, but if there was ever a score to prune down to three cues or even just one, well "In a Mirror Darkly" is a candidate to me. I'm disappointed I have to hold to inferior-sounding boots. And, if by some miracle, in the future another volume includes missing cues from some of the scores short-changed here, it just resutls in a fragmented listening experience; you either got to take the dsic out and open another set and plot in another disc, or rip all the cues and burn them (or save them, depending on how you listen). I suspect we'll be suffering the same unwildy assembly when volume one of "Star Trek: Voyager" comes out. :-( I'd like to point out La La Land Records' other releases for Black Friday: "The Passion of the Christ" (2CD; limited to 10,000 units) "Big Top Pee-Wee" (2,500 units) "Batman" / "Batman Returns" Both OOP (out of print) titles the label did before, only this time new tapes for the first score have been found (there were some complaints previously) and the new improvementm according to a man who worked on it, Neil S. Bulk, is "[FONT=Arial]The sonic upgrade is not subtle.[/FONT]", from a newly found digital stereo mix. "Shaft" (David Arnold; 2,500 units)
I for one am thrilled with this release and look forward to ordering mine soon. I would surmise that in each of these cases, it's because the majority of the scores have been available via bootleg and pirated downloads for years. Why on earth would LalaLand or the composers want to waste valuable disc space on tracks that are and have been readily available for the last decade? Answer: they wouldn't. It'd be great if people didn't bootleg, but they do, and it's a scumbag thing to do. But this is why the albums we do get look the way they do. It's also very possible that it could have been directives to LalaLand from the composers (who generally have a say in what tracks wind up getting used and the arrangement of same) so there's that to consider as well. LalaLand Records' work ethic and the quality of their releases have been superior in nearly every instance. You're basing your opinion on a press release before you even hear the music. Maybe wait till you get your set and have a chance to hear it for yourself before deciding its no good?
I myself spent a good long time re-ordering the DS9 collection chronologically, and including other previously released stuff and variants into one big album. It was kinda fun, in a weird way.
Yeah, I did something similar-- I joined it up with the DS9 content from the two Best of Star Trek albums. Isn't it a perfectly normal kind of fun?

Glad to see Terra Prime is in there, that episode has some of the best music of any episode of Trek. I wish The Forgotten was represented, I love the main refrain from that episode.
This is a good album with some great music, but to leave off the climactic cue from Azati Prime is a travesty to me. What a great, exciting cue that was. Also the opening cues from Terra Prime were also among my favorites. Devoting the final CD to the pretty decent sounding bootlegs was a disappointment. I prefer full episode scores to these compilations, but I'll take it.... Great music and a worthy purchase. This is the music I hoped to have on its own... God, I loved this show. Perfectly. My ENT CD arrived today and I've been doing the same again. There's some great stuff on this release, but inevitably there's missing stuff that you really miss. He's hoping we get a volume 2 some day. But not before DS9 volume 2.
So long as we buy the albums, there's all the more hope we'll get more volumes. Very happy with mine!
