This thread is safe. I am remaining spoiler free as well. If any spoilers do pop up in here they'll be taken out ASAP. People have been pretty respectful in here regarding spoilers so far. I don't see that changing.

KIRK: "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. I can do those things because I'm not a hero, like Decker. I kidnapped Ilia. That's what I can be."

    back to the review..
this would have been during the time period that spock and sarek had not spoken as father and son due to spock's decision to join starfleet.
so yeah perhaps sarek is a little grumpy..

pookha for some reason I thought they hadn't seen each other during those 18 years either. but this being re-imagining and all, it's possible, I guess. I am very interested in seeing Spock's evolution in this movie. it should set the tone for the sequels.

oh but they had seen each other.
for one thing spocks differences didnt go to amanda.

at the time of babel we learn spock had come to see them four years ago.
and if it wasnt as if spock and sarek didnt speak.
look at the wording,. didnt speak as father and son.
so i suspect spock would go and see his mother and then he and his father would only communicate on very formal terms as ambassador and officer.

Here's an interesting brief assessment from the Entertainment Weekly blog about the Austin showing from someone with the screen name LaureL:

I like that - "there was something shiningly happy about it." :)

oh right! four years! I'd forgotten about that. you know, this is going to make me watch some of the key TOS eps again to refresh my memory of the dialogue. good thing. this is one, and also Menagerie (I think urbandk said that the movie reminded him of that ep) and perhaps the Enterprise Incident.

Bah, the only truly shiningly happy show is Early Edition, and that will sadly never get a movie. :(

One non-spoiler question that can be a yes/no answer:

Do we see any familiar ST species in the movie besides Vulcans and Romulans?
