Hee! I love ravens. The park behind our house has several huge trees where ravens nest, so I often see and hear them. I love birds of prey, too.
Took the boys out to see the International Space Station tonight. We have an uncommonly crystal clear night, so I thought this would be a good chance to see it. We originally were faked out, what we thought was the ISS turned out to just be an aircraft. However a minute later the ISS came cruising on by. My older son Ian was super excited about seeing it. My other son Aaron couldn't track it. However still had a great time looking at the stars and the moon.
^^ the ISS is surprisingly fast, isn't it? I've repeatedly tried to take pics through my telescope but the darned thing is faster than a weazle.
Ravens are super intelligent. PBS has a Nature series episode about them worth watching. Yes, those mini Nixie tubes are pretty rugged. They were used in military equipment for many, many years until finally substituted with LED/LCD. The screw on cover is meant to help protect them from knocks so the watch looks pretty solid. Chunkier than a G-Shock though. For a while the tubes were fairly low priced but after a surge in interest starting about 10 years ago, they've gone up quite a bit. Not many are made these days, with the bulk of them coming from Russia and former USSR republics. Desk clocks are the most popular.
I love these photos Kes! Exceptional. I love, especially, in the first one, the reflection of other buildings in the prominent skyscraper. Please ... take more photos as time allows!
Aww thank you! You're always so encouraging and I appreciate that. I'm kicking myself for not doing a panoramic on my iPhone while I was out there but I haven't been that cold in a long time. I have been taking more photos and I occasionally put some on FB, if you're on there. I'd love to see more of your photos too.
I couldn't imagine trying to track the ISS with a telescope. I thought when the boys got a little bigger we would try a good set of binoculars. So for now we eyeball it and have a great discussion about it and show them pics on their iPads.
I use this for my Twitter profile. It's me outside Citi Field. (The dog is not, in fact, smoking a real pipe. Its owner collects for charity outside every Mets home game. If you give, you can have your pic taken with the dog.)
