For some reason Pocket has skipped Vanguard: Declassified and Cast No Shadow, and released their blurb for A Choice of Catastrophes. Here it is: I'm a big McCoy and Sulu fan, so this sounds great to me.
Not quite. They wish they had, though. Well, maybe not Spock. The others, though, come pretty close to regretting they left the ship. Straight in the middle of the 5YM, yes. Early-to-mid 2268, in fact. Definitely not in a bowling alley. They're doing a bit of exploring off-ship, but there's Trouble waiting for them. See our Unreality SF interview from last year; the first half includes some more information about the novel.
I love how kirk often almost empties the larder of senior officers for his landing parties. Something about being more willing to risk it all on the unknown frontier I guess.
McCoy had everyone but Kirk to assist him in Doctor's Orders though(which was a fun book, had very interesting aliens).
