Oh refits I can buy, but I thought (and now I'm questioning my own reading ability) that STID version was massive in scale, bigger then D or E, compared to 09's which was roughly the same size as TOS' Ent. That sortof thing isn't a refit. Or I'm a moron. At this stage I'd accept either.

The 09 version is substantially bigger than the TOS version. ;)

So I'm a moron then. Cool.

And thanks for being polite about it ;)

No, the 2009 version is much huger than the TOS version. There's no consistent information on how big it is, but it's generally been reported as somewhere between 2000-3000 feet long, sometimes even larger.

The only changes in the refit at the end of STID were modifications to the impulse engines and nacelle fins.

I hate JJ-Prise for it's uber-ship size. Would it have really been that hard to keep the ship around the same size? Or is this JJ's attempt to show the world his...uh...Enterprise is bigger than all the rest.

In Trek, story matters. Not the size of your "Prise"

Ahh, I think I'd seen a version of this and assumed it was an inconsistency between the two films, not just overall, and my mind had solved that by deciding all the damage meant new ship. Thanks for clearing that up :)
