Actually Peter Ludlow dies Hammond's death in the first book. Of course, book Hammond was the exact opposite of the Richard Attenborough character, so the death was rather appropriate.

Has JW been confirmed a direct sequel to the other films 'cause, what I am reading here sounds like a reboot. Did I miss something?

How could they, after everything that's happened, even consider rebuilding the park? The first time around "spared no expense" and yet failed miserably before the damn thing even opened. Are they nuts, or could that be the point... that TPTB never learn a lesson?

Starting from scratch, revisiting the original premise, only makes sense [to me] in context of it being a reboot... something like, in this universe the park holds together as intended past the events of the original story. A reputation of control and safety is well established. Things don't get out of hand until the worst possible time... Perhaps at the height of a 4th of July weekend, (wink wink) the park is running at full capacity, every hotel room filled with happy guests (i.e. tasty snacks) when the dinosaur crap hits the fan.
It has been confirmed that this film is going to take place 22 years after the incident at Jurassic Park. I have no idea why they would still attempt to build a new park after the failed attempts in the past, but who knows. Hopefully that will be well-explained. On the other hand, the director said during a podcast that he's hoping to open this movie to newcomers and try and capture the spirit of the original film.

The why has been explained several times over already:

In the movie The Lost World, Peter Ludlow dies by baby Rex. In the original novel Jurassic Park, Hammond dies by Compy's.

One of the characters in the movie did die Hammond's death, though. Been forever since I watched the Lost World, so I don't recall the name. I think it was one of the general flunkies/mercenary guys. He goes off behind some trees (I think to take a leak) falls down a hill and is surrounded by compys, the rest of the group moves on without him.

As of yet, there will be only one returning member from the original trilogy: B.D. Wong as Dr. Henry Wu. If you remember seeing him from the first film, he was the one responsible for cloning the dinosaurs.

Explains how confused the two characters.

I like how Hammond's death by compys is described in the novel. It doesn't really come across when Dieter gets killed in The Lost World. Each compy bite contains venom that causes paralysis, so the more you get bit, you pretty much become paralyzed as you're getting mauled by the little bastards.

So, filming for Jurassic World has stopped....

How weird really. For years and years rumors of a new movie propped up, then quietly went away again. And now..... filming is done, post production can begin. Part of me is really psyched about this movie, part of me is a little worried. But we'll wait and see.

I'm just happy the dinosaur, human, dog hybrid power ranger dinosaur movie was never made.

Yet at the same time I feel making a team of super dinosaurs to kill all the other dinosaurs on the mainlands makes more sense to me than this money does.
