Cray, Inc. (in Seattle, WA), projects its next-generation supercomputer—its XE6, due by 2013—will have as many as 1,536 or 2,304 processor cores per cabinet. Each cabinet will measure 7’9” (2.362 meters) tall by 1’11” (572 mm) wide by 4’9” (1.441 m) thick/deep, and each will weigh 2,000 pounds (907 kilograms), for the liquid-cooled model. This system should have more than 1 million processor cores! We may be getting close to having a shipboard computer!
