"Let's go, Data. The Royale will leave you broke & alone.
You may as well have emptied your wallet at the door."
Negative, Commander Riker. I do not wish to go home.
My abilities, skills and strategies will pay off, I am sure.

I am attempting to win back all the money I have lost.
I have even dedicated a program to dealers being changed.
When I hit the jackpot, it will have been well-worth the co$t,
As I believe I have removed all random chance from The Game.

I have been counting cards and changed the shape of the dice.
The odds are stacked against, quite unfairly, so I have been
employing every trick and appreciate your friendly advice.
But only one move presents itself: beat The House and win.

It is like a fever that will not cool down.
... Baby needs a new pair of shoes!!!
I have been hooked since I played my first round.
May I borrow a few bucks, Commander ... if I lose?

There is some excellent poetry here. Impressive!

I have no originals to submit, but I do remember a couple of episodes where poetry was quoted:

Riker vs the Romulans: "God protects fools, and ships named Enterprise."

Kirk coming out from under the influence, realises why they call ships 'her'. "All I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by... "

Then in the late 60's, Nimoy produced a couple of records (uh... that's those black vinyl disks that look like CD's only larger :), which he quoted some poetry Deseritus by Max Ehrman (Go Placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there can be in silence... ) and Consoleum by Cicero (What a small and infinitely immeasurable time is alloted to each of us... )

While these two poetry works weren't written by Nimoy, I think it's difficult to find any poetic prose that more accurately expresses Spock's philosophy of life.

Yes, even Classical Poetry is given a nod, throughout STAR TREK. Although a lot of what STAR TREK takes credit for seems to have been given a spin in one form, or another, over yay, these many decades, it's one claim to fame is tried and true: STAR TREK is a very literary show. Even with the movies, which tend to want to favour The Common Denominator, this franchise has often, perhaps always, referenced the Classics, directly. The one with the whales is a good example. In fact, I was surprised, actually, that Gillian Taylor didn't give Kirk a kiss after he began quoting Whales Weep Not! by D. H. Lawrence:

"They say the sea is cold, but the sea contains the hottest blood of all, and the wildest, the most urgent."

What you have is a "crush," the Viceroy described
And an ice-cold shower is the "cure" he perscribes

What have I done to excite you?
No bait have I used to entice you

Yet, I sense that your passion's growing
Your desire for me is a tall cup that's overflowing

When I'm around, your wares you flaunt
As though you were some kind of débutante

In me, you see a wild, untamed Bad Boy
Whom your love will convert into a play-toy

You'd love me to respond like a typical Man
But things don't always go the way that we plan

What I want is your duty and loyalty
I'll reward it well and treat you like royalty

This isn't a challenge to make you try harder
I'd give me up, if I were you - that way's much smarter.

In a Sector of the Empire
    There were Warriors Three
    A captain named Kruger
    And Torg and Maltz
To make wej (three) you see.

    The Genisis Device
Was the thing to ghaj (have)
    Krug would do anything
To get it on his jolpat (Trasporter Pad)

Khan had the brains, Krug had the Braun
David made G work, Kirk made it gone
Carol liked her Cookin', Spock learned Time
Days turned to hours, the Ear-Eel made them cry

    The Planet was a'churnin'
    Savvak was a'yearnin'
    Spock's fingers found some pleasure
    Pleasure Vulcans Measure!

But Life was not to be
    Krug would HoH (kill)
    One of wej (three)
    He wanted to lach'eghDl' (own)
    The Genesis Machine

    So, good news from bad
    The Klingons were had
    No Destructive Weapon
    Was there to be reckoned

    The Moral of this one
    Is not plain to see
    Life from Lifelessness
    Can not really be

I've always suspected that "Q'pid" could've been much better, had it instead gone with a Middle-Eastern texture or flavour ...

A lover knows only humility – he has no choice.
He longs to kiss every lock of your hair…
in his frenetic love for you he longs to break the chains of his imprisonment.
    He has no choice.

A lover asked his beloved: “Do you love yourself more than you love me?”
The beloved replied: “I’ve died to myself and I live for you.
I’ve disappeared from myself and my attributes – I am present only for you.
I’ve forgotten all my learnings, but for you I become a scholar.
I have lost all my strength, but from your power I am able”.

    I love myself, I love you… I love you, I love myself.

I am your lover… come to my side!
I will open the gate to your love…
come settle with me! Let us be neightbors with the stars.

You have been hiding so long, endlessly drifting in the sea of my love.
Even so, you have always been connected to me –
concealed, revealed, in the unknown, in the unmanifest – I am life itself.

You have been prisoner of a little pond… I am the ocean and its flood,
come merge with me! Leave this world of ignorance, be with me!
I will open the gate to your love.

I desire you more than food or drink.
My body, my senses, my mind: hunger for your taste.
I can sense your presence in my heart, although you belong to all the world.

I wait in silent passion for one gesture, one glance from you.

Excellent selection from the Persian poet Rumi, HIjol. After yay, all of these hundreds of years, or so ... he may well be the best-selling poet in the whole U.S. of A.! Also, I see a couple new entries in this thread. There's a poet in the heart of every STAR TREK fan that wants - OK? - that NEEDS to eXpress themselves ...

I'm a Family Man and was from the start
People say I'm down to earth, I suppose
But here's something that nobody knows:
... I'm really just a Romantic at heart

I often think about our wedding day
And when our babies were born
As I'm feeling tattered and torn
Because Life can get tough, in space

There are times when I feel insecure
And wonder where your love has gone
I just wear a brave face and soldier on
'Til your nagging me has run its course

I tease you how I'm an Irish Catholic
That a divorce won't ever go through
As The Holy See would never approve
On bad days, humour helps me through it

So, maybe I can't always be
A rock in the shifting sand
But I'll give you all I can
Try to get you what you need

Our life together still seems brand new
To you that might sound kind of strange
You're so beautiful that you never age
Keiko, there's something I want us to do

Later, when we put the kids to bed
Light those scented candles you like
I want to see you shine, tonight
The same way you did when we wed

    After the wine & food
    Go, put on your face
    Put on the red lace
Put me in the mood ...

Thanks, 'Frakes, but your use of illustrated frames is a step beyond, for sure! I really enjoy reading and feeling the words, while a I can have a "visual" at the same time. And, I agree with you, wholeheartedly, about the Star Trek Fan Poets. Wonder if there is a Con Booth idea starting here?!?! :)

"A picture is worth a thousand words," so I'm quick to use them to help "flesh out" the poetry I post here. It helps forgive many "sins".

    :rommie: >>SNORT!!!<<

As far as a booth at a convention would go, I don't know about STAR TREK conventions. But, in my late teens, I'd go to the annual Valley Forge Rock Convention which had acres and acres of kiosks filled with rare rock music and assorted imports. And it wasn't mixed with anything else, like STAR TREK cons are with comic book fandom and whatever. It was all about the music! Then ... I don't know what happened, it started sharing space with completely unrelated stuff, like Arts & Crafts and it's like ... what the hell's going on?! So, I had to stop going, it just ruined the fun of it for me and that was the end of my interest in any kind of conventions. Been there/done that.

There once was a Cap'n named Kirk.
He could kill Klingons with a smirk.
    After phasers and stabbin's
    He'd get down to jabbin'
Hot ladies at the end of his.....dirk?

Data was an android, you see.
No need to breathe, eat, drink, or pee.
    When asked by Tasha Yar
    "Can you truly go far?"
He said: "I have full functionality."

Once there was an XO named Riker
    Ladies man, trumpeter and hiker.
    After many long years
    Of Troi's laughter and tears
He was finally able to.....spike her?

Once there was a Counselor named Troi
Who could sense anger, fear, love, loss, and joy.
    She went for Commander
But the conn keys do not hand her
Or she'll crash your ship.....oh, boy!

There once was a Thl'ngan named Worf
You could not mistake him for a dwarf.
    Many years at tactical
    He always seemed practical
But he was playing and old game called "Gorf"!

    LaForge was a fine engineer
    Warp core breach? Never fear!
    Though wanting for sight
    His skillz were real tight
Just ask Scotty in the Dyson Sphere.
