Well, that would be a really weird sequence of events, considering that the station on the cover of Raise the Dawn has the Arabic numerals for "one hundred seventy-three" on its hull, and that the ship appearing out of the Bajoran Wormhole is an Excelsior-class starship rather than a Sovereign...

Context makes it pretty clear that Kira had no idea the Xhosa was about to be destroyed. She honestly thought she was asking Kassidy to take a risk by staying on Deep Space 9, not saving her from certain death.

This was explicitly established in the novel, yeah. Rebecca is perfectly safe.

No, quantum torpedoes were first established in the DS9 Season Three episode "Defiant," which aired in 1994.

You're thinking of the transphasic torpedo, which was first introduced in VOY's series finale "Endgame," and were used to only limited effect against the Borg in Star Trek: Destiny.

Your right I was thinking of transphasic torpedoes.

Does Starfleet and Klingon Defense Force still manufacture and use transphasic torpedoes since Destiny? Are they useful against groups other than the Borg? Are they the next step up from QTs?

If those torps were so destructive against Borg vessels, I imagine they are even more destructive against other ships.

Yeah, I think it's pretty clear from the design that it's a Federation station.

I have to say I enjoyed the book. The question I have is who who was having the Benny dream. Was it Kira or Sisko. I have to say I do like Kira as a Vedek it is a bit strange but I didn't have a problem with it. I am looking forward to the next one.

The Benny dream was Kira's. She received the vision then prevented Kassidy from leaving with her ship. Sisko clearly had no idea what was going on.

    Predictions for Raise the Dawn

*New Federation space station constructed on the Gamma Quadrant side of the wormhole. This does not necessarily mean that DS9 is destroyed or unsalvagable, but that they realize it's not a good idea to be blind to what is coming from the other side. This is really only based off of the cover, that intentionally seems generally have the wormhole on the right side in the Alpha Quadrant and the station on the left, but here it is flipped.

*Elias Vaughn wakes up. It's a quick throwaway line, but Sisko briefly sees or experiences this. I wouldn't think much of it, but he also saw the Xhosa exploding, and that happened, so they seem to be visions.

in any case, I'm really excited. Very much enjoyed this book and can't wait for the 2nd half.

IDK, I'm expecting Vaughn to die. He is already REALLY old. There comes a time when they just need to let nature catch up to him.

As discussed elsewhere, he's not THAT old for the Trekverse...

I think he'll wake up. I also think his Starfleet days are over and he won't make a full recovery. A disabled character could be interesting.
Who really needs to be allowed to die is McCoy. He looked incredibly frail and retired over 20 years ago, and we're supposed to believe he is still working during the Borg cleanup? Ridiculous.

Well to be fair, when McCoy appeared on TNG the writers probably had no idea how long a normal human lifespan would be by the 24th century. It wasn't until Vaughn's appearance in Treklit that it was decided.

No disrespect to DeForest Kelley, but McCoy looked pretty damn frail during the original run of TOS!

Just bought it five minutes ago. First thought is that there is an embarrassing typo on Pocket Books' part. I've never heard of a Shakespeare character named bacBeth.

Can't you picture them having a conference with McCoy via a Ouigi Board?
