And we now have both the official announcement from Larry: http://larrynemecek.blogspot.ca/2013/06/my-secrets-out-and-you-can-order-it-now.html And the official startrek.com announcement: http://www.startrek.com/article/stellar-cartography-map-collection-book-due-out-in-december Sighs of reassured relief all 'round!
Since no one else here sounds excited about this I'll come out & say I am, especially since this comes out just in time for my birthday.
I'm very excited to hear about this. Technical reference works are my favorite type of Star Trek publication, and they are too few and far between. I'll definitely be purchasing this one!
↑ I locked one up too. It may seem overpriced to some, a lot of things Trek are. That & Trek reference books are so rare that this was hard to pass up. I still hope there will be an Art Of tie in to STID in the late-fall but won't hold my breath.
Ahhh, now you have my interest in a big way. I'm in the Army. I LOVE maps. Thanks for the clarification.
Man, fall/winter 2013 is a hell of a time to be my bank account. Two of my favorite things are fictional space cartography and miniature space ships. I'm gonna have to buy this and then I'll be starting the Eaglemoss starship of the month club too.
Guessing that the KLI will have had a hand in working up the Klingon map, as they did with the BoP tech manual? Whose version of Romulan alphabet will be getting usage here?
OTOH, there were some assumptions that Star Charts made that I didn't really care for, so I would have no problem seeing those revisited.
Sure, it had some errors. Like assuming NX-01 went back to Earth after "Broken Bow" when it actually headed further out from Qo'noS, so that systems like Axanar are far closer to Earth than they should be.
There do seem to be a couple of versions of the language making the rounds, which makes your thought more cogent indeed.
Apparently Literary Treks has recorded an interview with Nemecek this week (according to their Twitter), so I guess some of the questions will be answered there.
I never bought Star Charts back then, and can't find it in the Netherlands anymore. So I'm hoping this is going to be good. I'll wait for some reviews and comparising from people who have Star Charts, and depending on that I might buy it.
