Cumberbatch has a big following in China, and in Japan (for a Western actor) - without him the take in China would probably have been a fair bit less. Maybe casting known Indian star would have made up for it, maybe not.

Currently at about 438.1 million world wide. With still 5 countries overseas to hit, and those did 11.3 million for trek 2009, and considering only 3 countries to date of over 50 plus have not reached the level of trek 2009, its probably quite safe to say that overseas still has between 11.3 to 20 million to add.

Us sales should at worst gain another 5 million at best 15. I lean about 10 million (primarily thanks to a small boost from the fourth of JUly weekend.

460 to 470 million is looking very solid for final take for the film.

I thought the international number would jump a little more this week. I guess it's losing a lot of international screens because of all the new films entering the marketplace. It's going to take a little longer for the international gross to exceed the domestic one.

The worldwide grosses for the big summer films so far:

    Iron Man 3 - $1.21 billion
    Fast & Furious 6 - $682 million
Man of Steel - $520.4 million
Star Trek Into Darkness - $438.1 million
The Hangover Part III - $337.9 million
The Great Gatsby - $321 million
    Monsters University - $300.3 million
    World War Z - $259 million
    Epic - $233.4 million
    After Earth - $188.8 million
Now You See Me - $153.4 million

Hope they will keep the theater count about the same so Trek can eke out whatever more it can for the July 4th extended weekend...

I went for my 8th and likely final time yesterday. It's disappearing all over in my neck of the woods. Would love to go the July 4th weekend, but who knows if it'll still be around.

Eight times ? Wow. That's double the most I've ever seen a movie in theatres. :)

When are they going to officially announce the next film? Strange to not hear of a greenlight yet

They have to have something to announce/greenlight first.

They are still counting the money they are making from STID.:rommie:

Okay seriously, they are probably waiting to see what JJ Abrams' next move will be and whether they will have to find a new director.

Yea, that's what I figure, they don't want to get harangued with those questions, once they announce, so, they want to wait until they can at least answer how the next movie might be affected by JJ doing Star Wars. Probably they also want to see final numbers so they have an idea of budget on the next one before they start shortlisting people for positions.

I almost never go to the movie theaters. So when there's a movie that comes out that I want to see and really want to support, I can go more often. Also, I took advantage of matinees.

I've been 12 times but didn't go this weekend. Probably won't make to the holiday weekend (too many ballgames) but will wait until it hits the dollar theaters to see it some more times (much easier on the budget: $7.50-matinee vs $3 anytime/1.50 Tuesdays).

I go in spurts when deciding to go see a movie. Plus I belong to the major theater chains "loyalty" clubs with all the perks

I went four times to STID. Would have gone a fifth, but it's out of theatres here now.

Four times is a personal record for me. I don't usually go that many times. ST 09, I went twice. Skyfall three times, and Prometheus twice.

STID is a record for me, I probably wouldn't have gone as many times if my schedule didn't easily permit it and that I can easily go to one of the best IMAX theaters.
