In Elementary, Dear Data, Picard promised not to delete Moriarty's program from the holodeck and said they may revisit him at some point. Well by the time Voyager came and went, the technology was available to free him from the holodeck. So do you think Starfleet, having been briefed on the situation, ever freed him? I'd think not, but Picard may have felt some moral need to think about doing so.

There's a follow up episode in season 6, called Ship in a Bottle.

Good lord, why don't I remember this?

Oh wow, you're right. I haven't seen this since it's original airing.

You'd still think he'd figure out the ruse eventually. I'd imagine him escaping. I think the smartest thing to do is to terminate the program. Keeping it around is too dangerous.

I thought it was better that Elementary Dear Data. The gist is Barclay stumbles upon the Moriarty hologram when he's messing around with the holodeck and Moriarty's mad because Picard hasn't done jack in the past four years. It's worth watching.

Yeah I hadn't seen it since it aired. I recall it somewhat now.

With the Voyager tech perhaps coming into play, I think it might be even more important to destroy Moriarty. Sucks to say, but he's way too dangerous. Imagine him living 50 years inside the program and then learning it isn't real? He might actually try to kill someone at that point.

Actually I'm fairly certain that holocube thing is sitting in a pile of rubble on Veridian III still. ;)

I suspect that it, and the rest of the saucer wreckage, would have been recovered at some point. It's more likely it's probably in the Daystrom Institute being studied/kept safe.

Assuming that the saucer and the majority of it's contents weren't just dumped into the local star.

He freed Moriarty in the most TNG way possible, compromise. It was a very cleaver idea too.

assuming that device he was in was fully funtional the whole time, would he be really upset if he found out it was fake? or would he appreciate that he got to explore in the only way he really could
