You do realize that the "United Earth" in Star Trek (what this website is about) is a world government, don't you?
I don't think we'll see a united earth government until we have actually something to unify against or for. For example the discovery of intelligent extra terrestial life. Which is rather unlikely.
One day, hundreds or thousands of years from now, there will be a world government. It will be created by a long slow painful political process. And not before the century numbers start with "3".
It seems these One World governments are inevitable... sadly it's not so much "One World" as "Our World or You're History".
Dictatorship is theoretically the best form of government, offering the greatest economic and social growth. However, it is also with the greatest risk of becoming corrupt and vicious. But we shouldn't let a few bad experiences with corrupt dictators in the past blind us to it's potential. In star trek yes But the idea of compiling things together is a capitalist model. If it fails, then everything fails. There is strength maintaining independence. "If we are one, then one can fall. If we are many, then some will fall."
If one day the world becomes a single country/government, can we please expel Massachusetts? Oh and might as well toss Gertch too bwahaha
I voted for no world government. The closer government is to the people, the better job it does. And fortunately, this isn't something I need to worry about in my lifetime.
How is that? Look at Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union, Tibet. The trend is for people to get further and further apart as they want to live with people they think of as "their own kind".
