There is definitely a difference in flavor between the various 'mites. I've always been partial to marmite. Marmite on toast with cheese is yummy. It's also tasty with tomatoes and a bit of cracked pepper.
Canada's is Bon Cop, Bad Cop, for those of us who've had the misfortune to see it. (Luckily it has nowhere near the profile of Crocodile Dundee.)
Don't forget Yahoo Serious!! I lived in Australia for a year, in 1987, so I'm sure my info is way out of date. Victoria Bitter... I drank about 100,000 gallons of that when I was there. Except when I was in Brisbane, I drank XXXX ("I can feel a 4X coming on!") Fish and chips in butcher paper on every street corner ( okay not every street corner, but frequently). Vegemite...once I learned to use it properly, it was quite tasty. I experienced a lot more, but maybe I'll save those for future posts. Like our trip to Hobart. Let me say that Australia is an awesome place. Beautiful, fun, nice people....My time there is one of the highlights of my life.

It is fucking freezing here. Actually I just had a conversation with my sister in the US who I said this to and she said, OH SURE you mean it's like 50 HAHAHAHA and I was like, no no really, it's much colder than that it's like super cold all of a sudden. And then I looked up the conversion and yeah, it is 50. Which is still freezing to ME.
Paul Hogan was already well known in the UK for the Paul Hogan Show and for doing Foster's Beer adverts, but primarily it was that film that shot him to megastardom. We didn't have a real outbreak of a fad though as Brits are very familiar with Australians, and lots of their TV shows and music are popular here. Especially their soaps like Prisoner & Neighbours, which filled daytime TV schedules throughout the 80s before Crocodile Dundee came out.

The most useless, ugly, repulsive, stinking (live or dead) and stupid creature on the planet. Vegemite is overrated. Tim-Tams are even more overrated. Crocodile Dundee is one of the worst "movies" ever made. Don't anyone mention Fosters. No one here would touch that crap with a bargepole, but the rest of the planet is welcome to it. Carry on.
I've heard from Australians for about 10 years now that Foster's is just something you guys dumped onto the rest of the world because nobody there likes it. Then made us all think it was the greatest thing evah.
I find it's only the Aussies who really hate Foster's. I don't know why because it really isn't that bad of a beer. Yes, there are better beers, but there are certainly worse, too. Americans knock their own beers and Canadians also knock their own products. Maybe it's a case of the grass is greener.. Anyway, I'd love to be able to spend a year discovering Australia. The amazing diversity of the country has always been fascinating to me. My son has been, just this year, and hasn't been able to stop talking about it since his return. He's going to be going back.
