Agree, that comment wins the internet....

Great work, I just saw this thread so fun to see the build all at once.

Great stuff- you should share the build over at starshipmodeler.net... (Unless you already have, of course- I haven't checked!)

    Exquisite.

I'm now wondering what all those little details do. For example, nearly every panel has a tiny, squat, rectangular box ... what are they for? Are they sensors? Panel release interfaces? Seriously, though, how closely did you adhere to the original for these? What is your "tolerance level" for accuracy to the original in this case -- at what point do you decide "that's close enough, no one will care" and when do you decide you need more detail than the original?

It's great fun seeing something so well executed and with so much detail that invites this kind of close inspection. Could you please post the highest resolution shots you can get somewhere?

And thanks again for sharing this stuff with us.

I'm actually trying to duplicate the studio model as close as possible, so everything I put on there is something I saw in the pics of the original. I spent hundreds of hours going over the studio model pics, identifying kit parts, then buying them on ebay, sometimes an $80 kit will only have 1 part in it that I need. And since the original was made in the late 70's a lot of those kits that were used aren't in production anymore, so they're collector items, I've had to tear the plastic off of rare, mint condition model kits just to scavenge it for parts, it's kind of a shame, but in the end it's worth it to me.

    It's a very tedious process.

I really must laud your intricacy of detail. They really don't make them like this anymore. I'm glad that you're not under a movie production schedule to finish the project. It's finished whenever you say that it's finished.

Those tiny greebles are what really make this model (and the original) stand out! CGI still hasn't come close to this yet, IMO.

Absolutely fascinating! A great example how a truly passionate approach on a subject will yield optimal results. The level of detail is incredible and awe-inspiring. Kudos!

I do have what may seem like a stupid question. There was a window / conference lounge section on top of the stern of the main "bulb". Did you consider to bring this section to "life" by considering illumination from within?
