I've been working on a model of the Enterprise...

I'm happy with the progress so far. The primary hull and secondary hull are coming along nicely, I still need to do some more work on the nacelles.

I figured I should have a model based on the 11 foot TOS Enterprise to go along with my models of the Phase II Enterprise and 33 inch TOS Enterprise (all at the same scale).

Glue everything together that doesn't obviously need to be painted before mounting. Then putty any seams (rubbing alcohol+those gray testors putty tubes works a lot better than the old guys and their squadron red (don't ask) claim). Throw down the base coat (should be the color you want the hull to be when your done) and then paint the details. Then decal.

Oh, and you WILL mess this up. It's okay. It's part of the process.

Me? I'm doing the 1:1400 1701-D. Now THAT is a s***ily made kit. Nothing fits together cleanly, those d*** lines you have to sand off and parts are asymetrical in a way you can't really fix even when they resemble the ship you know and love. Skill level 5 no matter what the box says.

Hey! I swear by Squadron Green! Testors putty is too gritty for my taste. But maybe they changed it since I used it last. I switched to Squadron in the late 90s.

Also, as for paint, I would recommend a nice even primer before you basecoat anything. The final results will be much better.

I'm currently working on a quick and dirty scratch and bash for the month's Art Challenge on this very board.

Oh, I'm sorry. I was talking about the OTHER old guys. Not you. :techman:

Anyway, as an update, I got some more kits in the mail include the superior resin 1701-E. The AMT/Round 2 is both inaccurate (owing to the fact that the model changed designs between the time they were given references and the release of the film) and the details are completely soft. The other benefit is that the saucer/engineering break is precisely where the ship separates in-universe. I'm expecting to pick up some styrene and some rare earth magnets and make a saucer-separable NCC-1701-E.

When relieved of its bulk, the Enterprise becomes an exceptional weapon. Also making it an exception weapon, the E-E is solid resin and probably weights twice as much as the styrene kit.

Some cool shapes in that. Definitely needs a lot of refining, but it makes for a good start.

Not Trek by a stretch, but here is my build site for a 1/2 studio-scale TOS Galactica. It needs to be updated soon in the next couple of weeks - I've already started laying out the fiber for lighting.

I had actually "finished" the mesh months ago and started texturing it, but the project fell by the wayside for a while. I've been meaning to get back to it, but in the intervening time decided I wasn't entirely satisfied with the model; as a result I've revamped a few major areas on the geodesic domes. I'm going to call this locked, as far as the geo goes.
