    I'm surprised I didn't see a thread on this...

    From IO9

It's totally weird. Now a big chunk of genre stuff is owned and controlled by the Mouse.

    Let the freaking out begin.

I can't say I approve, but I don't find it weird. Disney has been a rapacious, acquisitive corporation for a long, long time. Like so many other modern corporations, they won't be happy until they monopolize their entire industry.

But as long as we can get an Indiana Jones movie without George Lucas having control over the story, I'd call that a win.

Disney got IJ when they bought Lucasfilm, but Paramount had the distribution rights. And the House of Mouse won't let someone else make money, heaven forbid.

It was, it has to be said, a nice gesture on Paramount's part towards the fans, and they weren't going to make any money from IJ anymore anyway.

As long as it's better that KotCS, I'm good.

I'm sure this will be blasphemous around here, but I hope this leads to one last Indy movie with Ford in the role. 4 wasn't a great movie (like 1 and 3), but it was entertaining, and certainly better than 2.

Harrison Ford has pretty much hung up his hat in terms of playing Jones, so this isn't really a big deal. Not like there will be endless Indiana Jones sequels coming out anytime soon with Disney. ;)

What will happen to the Paramount logo dissolving into a mountain?

^Maybe they can try the same trick with the Disney castle.

Just to be clear for those who haven't read the article, this deal is only in regards to future IJ movies. Paramount still owns the distribution rights for the first four films, for whatever that's worth.

Disney is on the way to owning all the stuff they already had in their amusement parks all these years. I guess next they'll try to buy Twilight Zone.

Well, I guess Disney has long leveraged classic tales for their products so this is sort of a natural extension to absorb modern classics.

First the Muppets, then Marvel, then Star Wars and now Indiana Jones. What's next? Star Trek?

    (That will never happen...right?)

So, if Disney now owns Indiana Jones, why haven't we heard about plans of doing an Indiana Jones reboot yet? After all, they wasted no time when it came to announcing another Star Wars movie.

Considering the quality of The Muppets and The Avengers, I'm having a hard time thinking this is a bad thing. After KotCS, can anyone convince me that we're worse off with Disney controlling future Indiana Jones movies than we were when Paramount had the rights?

I'm not exactly a huge Disney fan, but I certainly don't think this is a sign of the apocalypse or anything.
